Pontov Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I love this sim and RoF, but in both games the crew models creep me out. They are well-modeled but still ... zombies. Is there any way to remove them from the airplanes? For instance, in Flightgear one can just delete the folder named Pilot.
Pontov Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 Good cockpit humor. So I guess there is no way to get rid of crew models? Here is one I could live without:
ShamrockOneFive Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Just be thankful they aren't Friday Night at Freddy's! They are coming to get you...
Pontov Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 I'd rather fly without him as well. Bad luck. I always get shot down when he is in the cabin:
Monostripezebra Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Just be thankful they aren't Friday Night at Freddy's! They are coming to get you... Paid superdiamondpremium DLC: "Five nights at Freddies Junk Junkers" where you have to fly night sorties as Ju-88 gunner and shine flaslights into the other crews faces to not get eaten by them is confirmed for next Helloween, though. 2
F/JG300_Gruber Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) I'd rather fly without him as well. Bad luck. I always get shot down when he is in the cabin: Hahaha Just look forward and try to forget about him. Not much else you can do. Not fond of their zombieness either, but the ghost manned turrets from the old IL2 creeps me even more. Like does the dumb looking copilots of CloD. Now what we can suggest to the devs is a gore mod, where if one gets killed it repaints the heinkel's canopy with internals. On a side note I don't remember having seen one of them lying dead at the bombardier's position. Is that implemented in the game ? Edited November 12, 2016 by F/JG300_Gruber 2
Danziger Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 What I think is weird is that you can see everyone apart from "yourself" like nobody is flying the plane. 1

LOL that's too good!! Love it!
kestrel79 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Actually think they look pretty good in this sim, the best is in Warthunder in the Kate torp bomber the guy in the 3rd seat just has this odd looking face on him that is pretty creepy, makes me laugh every time haha.
SvAF/F19_Tomten Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 What..? The crews in BoS look very human. However, in DCS Gazelle, the co-pilot look like he has lost his soul. I mean... look at those dead eyes! The stuff of nightmares! :D
Feathered_IV Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Ha! Looks like he just remembered he left the bath running. 2
gn728 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Hah - they could modify Orders/CtrlE - have an order to tell the crew to jump - right now it looks like the AC commander bails first and everyone else follows...
YoYo Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I really love the crew in BoS/BoM. Very well modelled:
Cybermat47 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Ask someone from the other team to remove them. 1
MAJ_stug41 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 On a side note I don't remember having seen one of them lying dead at the bombardier's position. Is that implemented in the game ? A few days ago the front guy in my Ju88 was killed and spent the rest of the flight slumped over his position.
Feathered_IV Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I wish I could look back and see a lady manning operating the gun in my Peshka.
J2_Trupobaw Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I wish I could look back and see a lady manning operating the gun in my Peshka. Manning womanizing operating? It's one of few redeeming features of Aerofly FS...
YoYo Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I wish I could look back and see a lady manning operating the gun in my Peshka. + voices.... 1
Trooper117 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 lol, we have some of the best modelled crew in any flight sim, and people want to get rid of them?
Yogiflight Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I agree with Borys, I don't like seeing an empty seat, when I look down and a stick moving from ghosthands. Give us a pilot figure, to make this sim look much more realistic.

seafireliv Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 My biggest graphic gripe is seeing no pilot shadow when the cockpit shadow comes around. Just feels really strange, like I`m a ghost.
AndyJWest Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 What..? The crews in BoS look very human. However, in DCS Gazelle, the co-pilot look like he has lost his soul. I mean... look at those dead eyes! The stuff of nightmares! :D To be fair, I think I'd look the same if I'd had the top of the cyclic stick come off in my hand. Seriously though it is extremely difficult to model human bodies (and particularly faces) convincingly - we have evolved to study them intensely for clues to internal states, and the closer they get to the uncanny valley (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley) the more minor discrepancies become 'creepy' rather than just irritating.
GridiroN Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I think it'd be more creepy and unrealistic to be flying a bomber around with no one in it while it's levers and guns fire mysteriously...
bzc3lk Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 To be fair, I think I'd look the same if I'd had the top of the cyclic stick come off in my hand. That is not the cyclic stick. He controls target selection and weapon deployment.
Finkeren Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 + being able to see your own body. Combined with anatomically correct female pilot models, this might be too much of a distraction for me and might negatively impact my flying
von_Greiff Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 What..? The crews in BoS look very human. However, in DCS Gazelle, the co-pilot look like he has lost his soul. 1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Me, Boris and Ivan, I'm rocking the porn stash! But the guy in the Gazelle? Yep creepy. There is some key trick you can do to make him pull down his visor but I forgot it so I get stared at. I'm one for not seeing the pilots body..sometimes it gets in the way of seeing a gauge.
VBF-12_Stele Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Somewhere at 777 Studios, there is a crew modeler crying in a corner as they read this. 1
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Nah, most of the creepy ones are from DCS not 777.
F/JG300_Gruber Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Ok, everything is fine, the other one was lying dead on the heinkel's sofa last night Thanks for posting that gazelle pilot picture though, the guys we have in our crates feels much more friendly compared to him !
Gambit21 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Hehe - Uncanny Valley definitely avoided there.
Gambit21 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) It's becsuse the 3D tools get so close, the closer you get without getting ALL THE WAY there = uncanny valley. It happens on multiple levels aside from broad strokes of the animation. Skin texture, translucence/subsurface scattering...muscle twitches, micro-expressions...things we don't realize we're picking up on. Edited November 20, 2016 by Gambit21
Feathered_IV Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 The ones that really freak me out are the shrunken heads of the RAF pilots in Cliffs of Dover. They look like extras from that horrible movie, Beetlejuice. 1
