6./ZG26_Loke Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) May 4th. 1945 a Messerschmitt Bf-109K-4 "Black 1" which escaped from the surrounded German forces on the East-front, landed safely just north of the town Rønne on the Baltic island of Bornholm. Pilots name is unknown and the same is his fate. One source say it belonged to III./KG51 and another to 10./JG51. I have looked at both and from what I could find none of them used the K4 version. So I have my doubts regarding the info being correct Sadly I can't find any Werk number on any of the pictures, so no chance of getting info that way. Does anyone have a qualified guess of which unit it might come from? IL2-MD-Bf-109K4-10.JG51-(B1+I)-Ronne-Denmark-1945.bmp Edited November 11, 2016 by RAF_Loke
Heliopause Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Apparently the IV Gruppe JG 51 received a number of K-4's. On March the 10th ten 109's were ordered to Pillau for the III Gruppe. Perhaps this is how a K-4 ended up with 10 staffel. Bit of a long shot, but possible. Edited November 12, 2016 by Heliopause
6./ZG26_Loke Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 I think it is solved. Believe that the source which wrote KG51, really meant JG51. Not that I have been able to find much about III./JG 51. Only that Major Heinz Lange, was the commander from 2.4.45 to 8.5.45.No mention which type of 109 used.
MiloMorai Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 III./KG51 was disbanded 31.12.43 so most likely a typo.
