15[Span.]/JG51Costa Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) Dear colleagues. I delayed the purchase of a new monitor for the arrival of Virtual Reality. But at this time is not sufficiently developed for air combat, so I decided to update my old Dell 24". So I ask for your opinion to help me to decide. Which one do you think is the best option? https://www.amazon.es/Philips-BDM3470UP-00-Monitor-color/dp/B00OO9XFQO https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0166PSP7W/ https://www.amazon.es/Samsung-S34E790C-Monitor-Pixeles-negro/dp/B00QB9OSZ2/ https://www.amazon.com/AOC-Professional-U3477PQU-34-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00RYZU2ZW My PC: i7-5820K @3.30GHz NVIDIA GTX970 16GB RAM W10 64bit Many thanks. 15(Span.)/JG51 Costa P.S: I hope that with the implementation of Dx11 my Gtx970 its going to be enough powerfull to move 3440x1440 resolution. Dakpilot Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Just to throw in a left field option... for a similar price it may be possible to get a 50' 2nd gen 4K TV of decent repute while it does not have the benefits of ultrawide and high refresh rate (60hz) there is something to be said for having such a large screen at 4k I have not used a modern ultrawide monitor..but I know I personally would have huge issues going back to anything smaller now Cheers Dakpilot
jaydee Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) Hi Costa. I bought my monitor and gtx 1080 at the same time. I decided to try my new monitor with my old 970 HOF first. The 970 stuggled. Framerates were very bad in all my games. I put in the 1080 and it improved drastically. I suspect the greater Nvram is needed for the bigger res. With the Hi res monitor you will get a Superb picture . BOS is fine but some of my other games slow right down even with the 1080. To be honest, the 1080 gives me average performance with my new monitor. If I could have afforded it I should have got a Titan. The Hi res monitor is VERY demanding ! Hope this helps mate . ~S~ http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_rog_swift_pg348q_curved_gsync_monitor_review,12.html Most reviewers don't use flight sims to review Hardware. SYN_Vorlander Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I have a ACER Z35 G-syn. Its a thing of beauty and BOS looks fantastic on it.
Bando Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 To be honest, the 1080 gives me average performance with my new monitor. If I could have afforded it I should have got a Titan. Is the older Titan a better card than the new 1080?
15[Span.]/JG51Costa Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) Thankyou very much for your help gents. As I can see, I'll need a better GPU. Even on Dx11. So the price range for the monitor has to be around 650€ as I have to spend aroud 800€ in a new videocard. I think I will go for LG AS I prefer flat screen. Thankyou very much again. 15(Span.)/JG51 Costa Edited November 11, 2016 by 15[Span.]/JG51Costa
Dutchvdm Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) Is the older Titan a better card than the new 1080? Nope. For the ultimate performance you can buy the new Titan X Pascal. But changes are that the new 1080 ti will be almost as fast. That means that the Third party Ti's will be faster than the current Titan. I want to upgrade as well, but i will wait for the new 1080 ti, that will come in January. I will buy a new monitor as well but i find it very difficult to make proper assessment about what to get. It should at least be a 4K monitor (28" or bigger). But i don't know if i want to pay extra for a IPS screen. It looks good, but the responserate is still lacking. Hi Costa. A bigger monitor doesn't mean the fps will go down unless you crank up the resolution. Or am i missing something? Grt M Edited November 11, 2016 by I./ZG1_Martijnvdm
von_Tom Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I'm very happy with the LG 34UM88 but I did combine it with a 1080GTX - rock steady 60 fps. I agonised between flat and curved and am very happy with flat. von Tom
