This looks really good.. way better than  I remember it when I last looked.. I love how the drum on the Lewis gun actually turns and you can see the leather strap rotating as you fire.. very cool. And the terrain looks much more realistic, natural and "believable" than Il-2.. especially the trees.

I must say I am slightly concerned about the performance though - you are getting as low as 90 FPS there in some places.. and that is a 4090 with a monster CPU.. what resolution were you playing at here? 4k?

That would look nice in FCV 😁

Flashy, I hate to say it but it is what is. My feeling is that OBD just can't optimize this old CFS3 code any more than they have. Nothing against them, love them to death and I have a lot of fun with WOTR & WOFF, but throwing hardware at these titles just can't really do much more. My RIG is not over clocked, but IMHO it is a pretty high tier and I couldn't be more satisfied with it, but this the best I have achieved @ 1440p. My main criteria is that my SIMs are fluid and smooth. I don't care what the FPS is, but you are right 90 FPS with a Frametime of roughly 10ms in either of these sims is strangely low for FPS numbers but pretty good for Framtime numbers. This is with quite a few of the graphics settings turned down some in the Workshop settings. With the Workshop settings all at max I was averaging maybe 60 FPS with a Frametime of roughly 15 - 20ms on this same Rig. I have experimented a lot with the NVCP, NvidInsp and the Workshop settings to get this result. I am quite happy with it now and it is a lot of fun to fly so there you go. It does look awful good now, I agree. One final thought, the occasional stutter is still there, maybe  once every 3 minutes at the most if not less frequently. To be fair though this has been the case for as long as I can remember. It's no big deal but it would be nice to eliminate it all together. One final note, while they did a complete weather system overhaul and everything looks beautiful, the clouds are still sprite based and the sprites are vertical and horizontal based so when you fly through them there are planes of flat sprites just like there has always been. You either accept it and enjoy everything else these titles have to offer or you hate it. You can guess what I do and I have A LOT of fun with both titles.

That performance is not bad per se, but just not what you would expect from such a powerful rig. But, as you say, its probably an engine limitation and has less to with your actual hardware. I would like to try WOFF, but I wonder if I would get playable performance with my I3 12100F and RTX 3080?

I am not an Intel guy, but I will ask my friend who has a lot of experience with Intel. I just moved up from a 3090 and that 3080 is a nice card as well.

Flashy, I was looking over my settings last night and in NVINSP I have 8x Super Sampling on. I am an eye candy guy, so in all fairness to OBD I will make a short video without SS on and post it over the weekend. Sorry for the confusion, I honestly forgot that I had SS turned on.

Its all good man, no worries. That might explain the relatively low frame rates though!

This one is for you Sir. No Super Sampling. Strangely, the numbers are basically the same. Don't know what to tell you? The additional 2 vids are more indicative of heavy missions with lots of assets and air battles going on. Anyway I am still tinkering and trying basically all options in NVDINSP to see what works best for me. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Blade, I really enjoyed watching all of those! The way the airframe on the Bullet creaks as you throw it around is very cool, and the dogfight with the D.VII's was awesome as well (the sound of an instrument or some other glass thing being shattered when a bullet hits it is such a nice touch). And the Zeppelin fight was brilliant as well - the city of London below looks really good in this sim - very believable with the lights and dark patches.. looks organic and natural and very much like flying over a real city at night..

Regarding the performance, yes its pretty much the same, but you can see your system is basically just idling when running this game.. your GPU was hardly doing anything (30 deg C and like 10% to 15% usage), which is not surprising when you throw a 4090 at such an old engine and at such a low resolution 😁 and the CPU is occasionally loading one or two cores up, but also mostly just chilling.. so its definitely the game engine which is limited to around 100-ish FPS. I bet you could switch to a 10 year old computer and get pretty similar performance with the same settings..

But I cannot imagine 2D any more, flightsims and racing mean VR for me

FYI

I have tested it in VR with VorpX, because of visual aliasing problems it’s eye candy is very bad. Lots of flickering, jaggies, shimmering and noticing all kinds of 2D objects. If they want to go for VR they have to leave the old DirextX8 game engine, or Ankor can do one of his mighty tricks.

Ah man loving this game again.

I bought the update with the Belgians and am just loving it all.   I started a career with the RAF and did the initialy training then was assigned UK defence before asking for a transfer to a front-line unit.  After about 2 months I manged to get my transfer as my original squadron got moved to the front.  Oh well.

Honestly, probably one of the best of all times. Look for YouTuber Rick Rawlings, he has all kinds of Woff let's play videos.
