Yak-1b Has Entered Beta

Shamrock I think your analysis and interpretation is spoton, thanks. Everything is an incremental improvement except all round visibility which is a major improvement. If I was a VVS pilot and had been flying the yak 1 for sometime and then had to upgrade to the yak 1b would I take it. Yep for sure its an all win situation...  plus the 1b has great looks.

So I did a little write-up on the performance levels of the Yak-1B versus the Yak-1 to try and get a sense of what we'll be able to fly very soon.

https://stormbirds.wordpress.com/2016/11/11/comparing-the-yak/

On the whole I'm guessing that rear view is going to be the biggest single advantage and the speed advantage after that.

I would invert those personally - staying fast goes a long ways towards making sure your life doesn't come down to a look over you're shoulder. But yep.

I knew someone would suggest I wrote it the other way around.

The speed is great but the knowledge can put you in a more advantageous spot so I chose the opposite priority. Both are certainly important and this aircraft improves on both :)

I think tear drop canopies are supremely unattractive personally. The only plane that did it and still looked good was the P51D Mustang IMO.

I'd say there are a few that wore it allright: The P-51 is an obvious example, the Ki-84 is another.

Personally I like bubble-top Yaks better, though they don't get truly pretty until the Yak-9U where they lose the chin radiator and move the cockpit back.

The Yak has always seemed a very average and "generic"-looking fighter to me, with pretty much no destinctive feature other than the weirdly angled rudder. A plain and ordinary thing in the otherwise colorful VVS ensamble.

Can it be used in Stalingrad single player campaign (obviously not in Moscow)?

I've always been a Malcolm Hood man myself :)

+1, it looks beautiful with it.

Timeline would not fit, but i guess in times where the 190 is over Stalingrad as well, this should be no problem

I thought the 31st GvIAP had been equipped with the Yak-1B at Stalingrad in December 1942. Should fit the timeline alright.

Not this version. Got introduced in 1943. At least in all sources i could find, this highest performing Yak1b (ground speed 530kph) wasn't there. Earlier Yak-1B was.

Series 127 was manufactured in February 1943 from what I can see. Worth mentioning that the bomb racks for the series 127 were field modifications, apparently between s. 127 and 147 (June 1943) these were not fitted in the factory to streamline production.

It is very much a Kuban aircraft.

I wonder when we can expect it this week.

This brings me to question the Collector Plane concept. Isn`t it an entirely moot point of someone wants to use inapropriate aircraft in a single player campaign? I mean I`d love to take the Collector Yak for a spin over Stalingrad/Moscow, yet I can`t so I have no use for it, hence I don`t see a reason to buy.

You can do whatever you want in QMB or ME but the SP campaign is historical so I can see the reason for limiting it to historical AC.

Considering that we can use the P-40 E (Mc.202 too i believe) in the BoM campaign and the Fw 190 in the BoS campaign, there's very little reason to not be able to use the Yak-1b in the BoS campaign.

I think Black Six mentioned that they will allow these not historical planes for the players, but they wont show up as AI. So they don't appear for someone who wants to play it the historical way.

Just my opinion...if you can't handle it without getting hostile and posting silly things then put me on "ignore" and everybody wins.

"getting hostile"

lol, seriously? Nothing you said bothers me and I have no intention of putting anyone on ignore.

Ahh interesting! Ok, thanks to you both. I had the impression that this model was December 1942 timeline but if performance suggests otherwise... then more of a Kuban fighter. I'm ok with that. But I'm guessing we'll see it in the skies over Stalingrad in single player at the very least and I do wonder if it'll be that restricted in a late Stalingrad battle.

Now I plan to use Yak-1b only in BOK for several IAP (3 IAK: 15, 43, 274 IAP (Yak-7b + Yak-1b), 291 IAP, 402 IAP, 812 IAP, also 42 GIAP and 6 GIAP VMF (Yak-1 and Yak-1b))

In BOS only 176 IAP had Yak-1b since January 04 1943, but we did the later version.

Are you sure BlackSix didn't just mean that the maintenance was today? And he's trolling?

Or even simpler, that today is today.

"It's today" is a tautology, it is always true.

Dx11 will be in 2.006. Perhaps with Ju-52 in the same time.

If the patch will be today with a Yak1b - super looking forward to. If there devs find some more mistakes, I'll be happy to wait a few days longer until their repairs this errors. Keep up the good work guys, you're doing great job for us.
