Gambit21 Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Yep - always thought the "I want gore!" people were sickos.
Danziger Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Yep - always thought the "I want gore!" people were sickos. And I always thought the "Please no blood in a war game!" people were crybabies but there's no need to insult people for expressing opinions in a reasonable way. 2
Gambit21 Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) And I always thought the "Please no blood in a war game!" people were crybabies but there's no need to insult people for expressing opinions in a reasonable way. With regard to the "Gore" thing...That it happens in real life is one thing (bad enough) I never understood the need to see it in a flight sim, and I stand by my opinion of those who always cried for it so strongly. I haven't seen anyone do that here FYI, so I'm not speaking of anyone in this thread, or even in this community. I'm talking more about what I witnessed with the old sim. SKG51_robtek Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 The only excuse for not having Infantry would be the limitations of the engine or serious blacking manpower in the programming team. imo. The Infantry was the major player in the war, even when we have only the game about a sideshow, the airwar.
Elem Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I've been asking for this for a long time, particularly Mortar units. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 A compromise could be to have the infantry to fall dead when hit by MG/cannon fire or when caught in the blast radius of a bomb which fell far away, and simply disappear into the crater when hit more or less directly with bombs or rockets. When you bomb a small group of soldiers, your bomb is likely to detonate behind you so you won't see the results yourself, rockets create a lot of smoke so no visual, and bullets and rounds make smoke and ricochet a lot so you also can't really see the results. Here's a nice example of how it can be done simply while looking good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTDh7OvFXbI
Cybermat47 Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) Regarding gore, while I think it can add atmosphere to a game that wants to be dark, gritty, and depressing (for example, Verdun and the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm series), I don't see much point in making gore a factor in AI infantry units. You won't see it while you're flying, and it would just be a pointless waste of processing power. As I said before, the RoF infantry work just fine. Gore could come in handy for telling when an aircraft crewman is injured or dead, but it's simpler to just cycle through the positions of your aircraft - when your screen gets filled with injured_3.dds, it's fairly obvious if the crewman is wounded or not. As for aiding attacking pilots in telling wether or not they've taken out the gunner or not, as before, they'll probably be going too fast to even notice any gore. So really, in my opinion, there's no real need for gore in the game, and I'd prefer the devs to focus on new aircraft and maps, rather than taking time to add mostly pointless gore to the game. Feathered_IV Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 On the subject of infantry and animations, I really admire the way vehicles and armour in BoS can be seen to smoulder and burn before blowing up some time later. It would be great to see the tank crews bail out, run a short distance and throw themselves flat like parked aircraft would do back in 1946. 2

Not interested in gore. Not interested in rag doll physics. Just guys that move and shoot. Nothing entirely new or different. Another ground unit type with some changes in characteristics. As I said, it's already been done in RoF.
Y-29.Silky Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I've been pushing this for over a year now, infantry will make the battle on the ground more alive. I haven't been able to strafe infantry since Janes WWII Fighters over 20 years ago.

Feathered_IV Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Sorry Hames, perhaps I didn't explain myself properly. I meant crews bailing out of burning tanks.
