What do people think of the PWCG ground battles?

A short time ago I greatly expanded what an assault looked like, from a relatively few units to 5x that.  I was flying RoF over the weekend and playing as a Roland pilot.  I flew a couple of attack missions in support of assaults and had a great time.  Things all over the place on the ground, some hidden in trees, some in the open, firing at each other, firing at me.  Because the layout is really several adjoined battles all happening at consecutive front line points what you get is combat happening at sort of a front but at odd angles.  It is not two obvious straight lines.  That makes IFF challenging.

 

In the best mission I dropped on a source of fire in the trees and only after saw a group of infantry in the open.  Hate when that happens.  I made several strafing runs and in the process was getting plinked by ground fire.  Hot enough to make me reconsider more passes.

 

Anyhow, if you fly ground attack and have not seen an assault support mission, generate missions and scrub until you get one.  IMHO there are by far the most interesting ground attack missions in PWCG.

 

In the very near future I want to add a ground attack patrol mission.  Just like an air patrol mission there will be no predefined target.  The idea will be to patrol and attack what you see.

 

I also want to make people aware of the level of randomization in PWCG.  There are already random trains and truck convoys.  One of my PWCG missions this weekend was artillery spot.  It just happened that a group of wagons was moving along the same bridge that was in the artillery spot grid.  I got the artillery to hit the bridge and then I strafed the wagons myself.  That was RoF but the same thing happens in BoS.  Do people look for these targets of opportunity?

 

Putting this out there because there is already a great deal of work put into the creation of a living world.  In the latest (2.1 posted last night - available for download now) I expanded the number of "ambient" units (trains, trucks, etc.).  In the future I want to do even more.  I want people to be aware that these things exist.  Your mission is not limited to "go here, blow this up, that's all there is".

I've seen several trains on my way out of the target area and attacked those as well.

It's a nice touch and simulates the fact that there's a lot more going on in a war than your own sortie.

 

If you can expand on this, it's getting better and better.

well so far great work, but as usual, I can not finish any SP ground attack missions, because flight cover never covers me, AI 109s lazer beam right to me..and shoot me down..
