Bearcat Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 My GPU died on me last night.. I got it in '12 .. a R7870. I can't afford a top of the line card at the moment.. My budget is $200-$275 ..... any suggestions?
Jade_Monkey Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 On the Nvidia side you can get a GTX1060 for about $200. AMD has a similar GPU, the RX 480 for similar prices.
SYN_Mike77 Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 (edited) Newegg has the 6gb version of the 1060 on sale for $260, at the top of your price range but double the memory! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127963&cm_re=graphics_card-_-14-127-963-_-Product And there is a $15 rebate, brings it down to $245. Add $5 shipping and it still comes in at $250 Edited November 6, 2016 by SYN_Mike77 1
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Or you can take a look at older generation high end that recently dropped into mid range pricing: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202186 I got myself R9 Fury recently which is based on Fiji core and is still better performing (about 15% or more) than Rx 480 based on Polaris architecture. Yes, it has 4 GB of Vram but for the most part its still and should be for next few years sufficient, especially that HBM is quite faster than normal GDDR5. If you would pick above Bearcat just make sure you have enough power (your PSU is at least 550 W), got enough connectors (requires 2x8PIN) and have enough room in your case.
Bearcat Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 Oh yeah my PSU can handle it. 1050w. Thanks guys.. I have been out of the market for a while and I just don't have time to do the research...I have 32g of RAM so the VRAAM is not as important and whatever I get it will be better than what I had....
Dakpilot Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Regardless of how much RAM your system has, the amount of VRAM is still important, with DX11 coming soon there is possibility of bigger textures etc, this will make it even more important to have as VRAM as possible for the future http://pc.net/helpcenter/answers/difference_between_sdram_and_vram Cheers Dakpilot
KoN_ Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) YOUTUBE Is your friend , do a comparison that suits your budget . Nvidia seems to hold the high ground but AMD are climbing . Have at least 4GB vram . Also EBay . used cards still hold their own . Edited November 7, 2016 by II./JG77_Con
Bearcat Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 I got a RX480 with 4G VRAM.. for $219 Thanks guys for the assist..
