Yakdriver Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 It has been a while, maybe 6 months since i last flew, so i gave this old Girl a shot - see how far she has come. I never really used the BoM part of Il-2 either, so having a little tour defnitely is in order. *Facepalm*My biggest beef is still the P-40. If the current availability of continuous as well as peak engine power is anything to go by, then the 39 is going to be "top kek". NOT.How the Yanks managed to sell/lease that piece of *censored*to its allies is beyond me and certainly linked to the political circumstances back then.Had i been on the marked tor firepower, i would have chosen the LaGG and I-16 over the 40.F****n Ell.One of the selling points for me was the P-40. It is the centerpiece of my attention, and i would very much love to use it in a ground attack/dive bomber/Heinkel killer role. It has the Equipment needed for that, but with a 500hp engine, there is no point even trying.Even worse than the Hawk 80 in 46.*thumbs up*That I-16 is a Bastard - a magnificent Bastard.I will need some more time to fly that thing properly to make it useful. But i can see what they did right there.I like it. especially with the Cannon equipment.*Sigh*Campaign... still rigid, no personal skins, no way to chose your own route from takeoff to landing. As if i were a Mig-21 and merely following Ground based Radar instructions.i KNOW you guys are putting 109s and AAA near the waypoints, ( ITS A TRAP! ) so if you could give me the freedom to NOT follow the Waypoints, and in general let me conduct my flights on my own terms that would be great.I very much look forward to new developments in that area.My old Friend the LaGG is still there and has not changed its ways, and i very much look forward to meeting the Yak1b.But why you guys are putting a difficult-to-fly P-39 in BoK, to probably have the same 500hp engine... i cannot understand that. But then again, it is 2016, and this year has seen a whole bunch of strange things happening.
Gitano_Fraile Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 to see, personally, there are things I agree with and others not. But let the matter of P40 in our squad, we are conducting a cooperative campaign only on P40. Avion difficult to handle, but when you grab the hand is a very good plane. In this market New edition of IL2 have to practice a lot to get a good performance plane. I guess the P39 and the other planes also require the same effort to learn to use. I think too compared with 46 (even). This is something else, 46 were flying virtually any aircraft available here you have to practice a lot on one to hold her hand. regards
BlitzPig_EL Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Don't confuse the developers interpretation of the Hawk 87 in this game with it's real life accomplishments. There were many aces in all the air forces that flew the Curtiss Hawks, 75, 81, and 87. Also remember that the RAF gave serious consideration to replacing the Hurricane with the P40 based on it's performance advantage over the Hurri. The problem arises from the fact that we are dealing with a very compressed and quite unreal environment in our sim/games. These compressions of reality affect some aircraft much more than others, hence the "supremacy" of Luftwaffe types in all sims since the beginning of the genre. One cannot expect real world outcomes in the "gamey" world we "fly" these pixel planes in. Hence the I 16 is a total killer and the P40 is well, not...
Stig Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 These compressions of reality affect some aircraft much more than others You are right, that is the case for some aircraft, and the P-40 is one of them. However, the P-40's problem is having to live up to real world outcomes that didn't actually happen; the result of legends built on overclaimimg.
BlitzPig_EL Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 If that is what you choose to believe, so be it, I cannot change your mind. Everyone over claimed.
Mac_Messer Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I bought BoM about a month ago. Back then I said to myself : going to finish up BoS campaign flying the VVS and gonna start BoM campaign flying the P40, which at that time will probably be on sale anyway. So the recent weekend came and I had to make a decision if I want to buy the thing for 17€ (over 30% of the price of the game I just bought) just to be frustrated flying it during the campaign. I have come to the conclusion that I`d rather take the MiG and LaGG since both are just wonderful planes to fly. But the P39 from 777 stables I would buy anyways. I don`t care how it flies. I`ll get the Spitfeuer too and I don`t even have to fly Soviet kites to enjoy ETO.
Stig Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 If that is what you choose to believe, so be it, I cannot change your mind. Everyone over claimed. It's not what I choose to believe, but what I surmise from reading about WWII air warfare. Yes everyone over claimed, to varying degrees; yet this fact seems often to be forgotten by sim pilots when their favourite aircraft doesn't meet their expectations.

Aye, with respect- just remember you're not the only one around here that speaks from knowledge based on reading about WWII. Most of us here are very well read. Consider the room you're in before making the "I know more because I read" statement.
BlitzPig_EL Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Exactly, it's not like that argument has not been made a couple thousand times plus in the last 20 years.

It wasn't my intention to come across as 'knowing more, because I read'; and i am well aware that there are many knowledgeable and well read folks here. I am just trying to put another perspective on the 'sim' versus 'real world' aspect. Not my intention to tread on anyone toes either.

Gambit21 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 If only......... Well...some of us. You know what I mean
