SCG_happy_meal Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Did an involuntary test of losing 1/3 of the right wing on a 109-F4, was just as jerky as the Pe2's but did still fly fairly good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmMejp8lJy4&t=168s
JG13_opcode Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 (edited) Well just considering that an aileron can cancel out the lift of that wing portion makes it very well thinkable that planes can keep flying with larger parts of wings missing. When an aircraft is rolling, the downard-going wing is still producing a net positive lift. It's just producing less than the other wing, resulting in a roll. The ailerons don't "cancel out" the lift of the wing. Edited December 18, 2016 by JG13_opcode
