Hi all...

With BF109,

Full throttle with Autopitch raise the RPM to about 2700 and burns my engine. Is that how it is supposed to be or am I missing something?
Also, full throttle gets me to WEP automatically, is that normal?
I am used to fly full throttle in other sims and turn on the WEP whenever I need. How can I set it to manual? The key mapping doesn't seems to work.

Thanks

It could be helpful if you say which specific aircraft you are having difficulties with as they are all slightly different, but in general you should not just ram the throttle all the way forward and leave it there. Most aircraft will have a specific range of prop pitch, throttle, fuel mixture and manifold pressure that will get the best out of the engine at any given height and speed. Some engines include a degree of 'automatic' synchronisation of these so that you can control them with fewer inputs. There are plenty of general and specific guides available on the forums, but if you have specific questions, just ask and some kind soul will do their best to answer.

The various Bf-109s modelled in game have different amounts of throttle required for optimum regular running versus combat power versus emergency power.

To follow up what Silk says, you have to monitor the settings very carefully.

I suggest selecting the aircraft in QMB and set it to start on the runway.  Open the main map (default O) and on the right you should see a specifications tab.  That gives the operating parameters for each aircraft.

As a rough guide, in the F4 and G2 keep at 1.2 ATA or below and you are fine indefinitely.  I have no idea what if it gives percentages in the technochat but presumably it will tell you the what setting you're at, which for the F4 are:

Engine modes:
Nominal (unlimited time): 2300 RPM, 1.15 ata
Combat power (up to 30 minutes): 2500 RPM, 1.3 ata
Emergency power (up to 1 minute): 2700 RPM, 1.42 ata  (so go over 1 minute at 1.42 and the engine goes POP)

See this link for details of all planes (this is what you see under the specifications tab):

Thanks for replying,

OK, to be specific it is the 109F4
On a level flight, 2kM alt, full throttle I will burn the engine (autopitch on), is that normal did I miss other setting to balance the RPM?
And for the second question again... Is the WEP supposed to be activated with the throttle on max.

Thanks again.

Yes, the settings for combat and emergency power are activated through the throttle. You will find that Nominal (best normal) setting is somewhere around 60-70% of throttle, Combat power is slightly more (only for up to 30 minutes of flight time) and that Emergency power is more again (only up to 1 minute flight time) as von_Tom's post said.

Yes, 109's don't have a "WEP" button. :)

Full throttle (throttle 100% open) means emergency power and can be used by limited time (see Chucks guides/game manual).

Normal power is less, but to learn handle engines properly forget this arcade "%" and watch engine RPM/manifold pressure, of course is need know what is the maximum for normal power and emergency power.

In RW, some WW2 aircraft had notches or safety wires in their throttle quadrant, to prevent the pilot from pushing the throttle all the way forward except when he really needed emergency power. Obviously, our game throttles don't have such safety harnesses, so we need to pay attention to the power setting ourselves.

Using throttle % and/or RPM is not a smart idea to gauge power in the 109. ATA should be used instead. The BF109 F4 operates 1.15 ATA at cruise, 1.2+ ATA at combat, and 1.3'ish+ for emergency power. Combat power is 30min, emergency is 1min. So, yes, 2700 is burning your engine out.

Not many planes have "WEP". "WEP" is a softcore, Warthunder/Wings of Prey thing and it's usually referred to as "boost", or emergency.

The emergency power in 109's is engaged manually, via the throttle.

Boost in Russian planes is engaged with a separate button.
