How will the paratroopers act when they land? Will they sit there like ripe potatoes, or scramble around and engage nearby enemies with taht MP 40 slung on their back.

For now I guess they're gonna be dead static objects.

If at some point they decide to expand on the ground war, they might become more active.

It would be cool if you drop a big amount of troopers around a bridge for example then as soon they land they will become static objects around the bridge with some MGs and then defend the bridge. Or maybe a town where they will block some roads and such. They will be able to destroy light targets but in need for air support against armored targets.

I don´t really expect individual soldiers of those paratroopers to roam around the battlefield.. that would just not be within the scope of the game. But I do hope for good gameplay mechanics, such as activateable tank spawns, or capturable airfields... maybe even some resupply logic that requires other junkers planes to land at points taken by paratrooper.

I wouldn't rule out moving troops. DCS has had a basic implementation since around 2008, and it works fine. They mostly sit around in their funky poses, tossing small arms fire at anything that comes in sight, but can be made to move by the mission designer. Up close the whole deal looks gimmicky but from 100m and up it's good fun.

I suppose they could land, group up into a group that is ruled by a single AI unit (to save resources) and a) move towards nearest enemy formation/bridge/airbase/city within 5-10km or b) move towards friendly lines if no nearby enemy assets appear. They could fire at whatever entered range for example, including aircraft.

I don't know how German paratroopers operated but Soviet troops overall had orders to open fire on any aircraft within range so a group of 20 guns spewing light rounds could lead to nasty surprises.

That being said, if they are indeed more functional than visual as you suggest then they will still be very cool to use :)

With the great gameplay mechanic possibilities these guys introduce, first question my tired head comes up with; Can you run them over with A t-34?
