andyw248 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Looks like landing the LaGG is now much easier than it was in week 1. Possible reasons: My 3-point landing skills got sharpened during week 1 (I'd like to believe this, but it's unlikely) Slight bouncing doesn't cause the aircraft to break up anymore The dampening of the struts has been adjusted for week 2 so that the plane does not jump as much anymore It might be a combination of 2 and 3. Also, the tendency to groundloop at the end of a landing roll seems mitigated now (not sure about this though, I didn't think it was too bad in the first place with proper use of the brakes).
=38=Tatarenko Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 re groundloop and landing in general - it seems the brakes are stronger.
BeastyBaiter Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 At first I was inclined to think nothing really changed but now I'm not so sure. The tail wheel bounce hasn't, that's certain but the main gear maybe a little less bouncy. The ground looping also seems to have been reduced some and the brakes made a bit more responsive. Could just be practice I suppose but I spent a lot more time with the LaGG last week than I have this week and yet I find it to be easy to control on the ground now. I still bounce every landing with both planes, but the bounces are small and reasonable, not these hugely exaggerated things we all got last week.
pilotpierre Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I think the bounce has been significantly reduced for this week for the LaGG. I even managed a couple of greasers.
Quax Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 This is funny guys And it proofs, that piloting skills improve with training, and this makes the plane behave "better". Some more hours and the Lagg will not bounce and not ground loop anymore
Fodder Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I still have issues with ground handling though. Why is the Lagg so much harder than the 109?

Some more hours and the Lagg will not bounce and not ground loop anymore I’m a much worse pilot than you think. And I agree with Andy: reasons 2 and 3 are more likely.
Fifi Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I still have issues with ground handling though. Why is the Lagg so much harder than the 109? Because no tailwheel lock on Lagg, It helps a lot on the 109. Once understanding the Lagg brakes fonction, it's very easy to taxi it everywhere. Just don't rush and be easy on throttle... 2nd week was very successful. No more broken Lagg and 109 planes at landing. Practicing is the key without a doubt! Whatever landing speed and angle, the most important factor is the final "rounding" before touching ground. It must be at the right time at the right height. Even overspeeding the final approach, i will not bounce IF the final "rounding" is clean. I just will pass the end of Lapino runway... Even with higher approach angle it works! No more bouncing...Just the end of Lapino runway will be passed. Nevertheless, to stop before end of runway at Lapino, there is an landing angle and speed to respect I wished i could upload videos on Youtube...takes ages here.
Quax Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 (edited) I posted this two weeks ago, and it shows the "standard" angle on approach and a three-point landing. Remaining runway is enough for take off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50Nz3wj7pQc&feature=youtu.be PS: FM didn´t change, Furio Edited November 28, 2013 by Quax

No propeller pitch or anything else? And what speed did you touch down? I'm still learning. Edited November 29, 2013 by Rigsby
Quax Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 It´s all in here: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/2260-so-how-do-i-land-small-tutorial-landing-your-aircraft/ Just ignore the trolls. If there are still questions left, post a short final pic or a video and Stern or me will help.
Quax Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 So i better let Stern do the help, cause i can´t do it any better
BeastyBaiter Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) I get the feeling stern can't even land it in one piece, lots of talk but no videos from him. But yeah, I think everyone is bouncing. That landing was pretty good given the way landing currently works. Edited November 29, 2013 by =LD=King_Hrothgar
