Guys, I would like to ask you two questions, because I started flying the BF 110 yesterday.

1) How much time do I have for returning home when those red lights (low fuel warning) turn themselves on?

2) Which amount of fuel do you recommend me to take into combat? (with 2x500 kg bomb load)

Posted

Most of the time I get about 300 liters per engine... this gives me about 30-45 minutes of flight time.

I fly only those two (WoL when Expert is full  )

It is comfortable to fly - fast and well armed. I tried few flaps setups for taking off -  which one is the best in your opinion? And how should I deal with enemies on my six? With BF 109 I used to dive (when I had proper altitude), but I think that this one would not survive such dive. What defense strategy would you recommend me?  :)

The only defense strategy for Bf110 is to have another Bf110 right near him, and defend each other. Another way - to have fighter escort.

With bombs and without altitude advantage, chances to survive are very little.

That's it.You can try to escape under treetop level and hope they loose contact to you,but the REAL key to survive is:Never fly alone!

Im dead then.  Because I´m flying like a lone wolf 99.9% of the time. No matter how many times I requested cover, no one ever helps.

I fly just above the trees sometimes, it seems to help a bit, except on winter maps.

We also have a channel on the BoS official teamspeak, so if you see ZG1 pilots online on Random Expert or WoL that's where they'll be on comms.

Flap setting for take off is 40% or 20°, set before t/o roll, hold brakes until reaching 1,2 ata and trim to the right and keep your feet on the rudder to hold her straight, because it will turn to the left otherwise.

push the stick a bit to get the tail up asap, that helps with accelerating. rotate around 170 kmh and retract the gear as soon you have a positive climb rate, then gradually retract the flaps until she speeds up.

reduce power to 70 % and climb with 220 to 250 kmh.

That works for me with 100% fuel, armor and 1000kg bomb load.

Follow this link http://zg1wespen.proboards.com and you will find many Zerstörer-friends! :) We just created a III.Gruppe for Jabos to provide aircover and pulverize the AAA's around the targets.

Thank you   :)

Im fairly new to this (only 120 hours played, flying BF 110 since yesterday and playing BoS/BoM only since May) and I have never flown into battle with some friends.

Im totally unexperienced in crew-style fighting so I would like to learn some of those  :)

I will try that. I thought I was doing something wrong  :)

All of the above advice is good (percent fuel, flaps etc.)

Remember to be aggressive! If you get "made" by an enemy fighter, your gunner won't do squat. His only use is to warn you there is an enemy nearby. You can also use him by looking at him in rear view and where his gun is aiming you have a clue where the enemy is. Running away is also of little use. Drop your bombs, turn into the enemy and try to shoot him in the face. You have a pretty good turn rate initially until the speed bleeds off, so practice your gunnery so that you can make your shots count. Yes, most of the time against a single-engine fighter you'll die but you'll have a better chance than flying it in "bomber-mode".

Just got my first aerial kill with BF 110  :)

This plane is awesome.

Posted (edited)

Peshka in WoL. I was about to bomb some enemy gorund targets - sneaking just over trees. (Plane is almost invisible in this position because of bugged trees) Then I saw two peshkas on my nine, flying away. Then I dropped my bombs and went after them. One was damaged and shot down by someone few seconds after. I sprayed on him and damaged both of his engines + tail tank. After this, he dropped his bombs into the forest and began his escape home. He ascended + - 200 meters above me - I was still near trees, reloading my cannons. After few minutes, he decided to land. Then I came up from trees and finished him from close distance. Unfortunatelly, I hit his wing with my left propeller (too much adrenaline  ) I was lightly damaged from the chase, so the engine fell off and I crashed into the forest.

I will be more careful next time

Update: According to stats, IL-2 shot me down, I was curious about that engine, this explains it.

That peshka guy, who was shot down by me, was  =NOR=Draupnir

This was the demise of 110 over Britain, and it is very Historical. I flew in a 110 unit in COD and if we could not keep them in front of us we simply was dead meat

I would like to ask - how am I supposed to use the radio beacon compass in BF 110? (I don´t understand what it is showing to me  )

I would like to ask - how am I supposed to use the radio beacon compass in BF 110? (I don´t understand what it is showing to me  )

The vertical line shows if you are left, right, center of the beacon whether approaching or leaving. When approaching, if the needle is left of center (7 oclock) turn left until the needle is centered (6 oclock)

The horizontal line shows how far you are from the beacon. 11 oclock is close, 8 oclock is ~ 100km.

If the lines do not move, then there are no beacons in the map or you are out of range.

You can also go to the gunner station and turn around to the front. You have a magnectic compass that has a needle with a P and S at opposite ends. Line up the P with the nose of the airplane and red needle to fly towards a beacon, line up the S to fly away from a beacon.

Look up Chucks guide to Stalingrad under guides for some pics. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/10268-chucks-aircraft-guide/ pg 250

We cannot change radio channels yet, so it will lock on to the nearest beacon, not neccessarily the one you want.
