Dakpilot Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Check this out for the latest Tech to come out of Elite http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/7160-trackir-history-rift-tech-free/ I think it could be revolutionary Cheers Dakpilot
steppenwolf Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I hope it's done with first person view. Definitely. NPC? Will there be limited interaction responses from NPCs like in GTA V. Also, will they incorporate scripted character animations in like SC. One thing that jumps out at me with the SC animations is that they look great until control transitions back to the player, then it gets all GoPro and skatey.
HagarTheHorrible Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Is it worth £100. I'm toying with the idea, but £100 quid is a bit of a punt. I do have fond memories of the original though. Good grief that seems like so long ago. When I think back to the awe and excitment of playing Elite and the original Microsoft flight, WOW, simplistic bliss, it's just as well I had a good imagination back then.

Probably the Standard Beta will be, but you have to take in account the expansion pack that's not included in that package. I'm not enjoying the Premium Beta at the moment: too many crashes and too much grinding. Talking about content there's few things to do and for the same reason I'm not playing BoS until they change the mission with a more realistic one.

FlatSpinMan Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I'm holding off, too. Really interested but 100-150 bucks is a lot. The DLC thing is nice, though, I must admit. I'm actually thinking to reinstall the old IL2 and play some of my old campaigns as I know they'll run really smoothly.
TheBlackPenguin Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 wow games are getting more and more expensive why the hardware and software industry dont collude and give games away for free? just think of or sales and at least people would pay for something tangible Its currently $150 to get into the premium beta, although the actual price of the standard game without expansion is $50: https://store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous.html/ They set the price high for beta as they didn't want too many people playing it too early, and it was also set that price for Kickstarter and kept the price stable, unlike Godus which ended up on Steam Early access for a cheaper price than what the backers paid to get it going.
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 How big are the stations, do we know yet? The rotation speed seemed pretty fast if the goal was to have 1g at the greatest radius and they are as big as they look. Perhaps an FM problem.

DD_Crash Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Video of the Beta 2. If you liked 2001 you will love this 3
FuriousMeow Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) After some trial and error, I figured out how to finally copy the game installation from my C drive (which is SSD but smaller) to one of my other much larger SSD drives that is dedicated to games. Took a few runs to figure it out but it was much better than using the install from scratch method on the forums - I really didn't want to remap all of my controls, although this most recent beta still messed up a few of my controls but not all of them. FuriousMeow Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I also wish I hadn't put any money into Star Citizen and waited that one out. Especially since they aren't using their own engine, but Cry Engine which limits what they can do since they can't modify the engine. Always bet on the team that has their own in-house engine, they can do far more with it because they have full control over it rather than being limited by what the engine can do since they can modify the engine to do what they want.

I've read that they are paying a team from Crytek and their engine is a modified version of the CryEngine.

I have the same idea in my setup, small drive for OS everything else on separate drives (all SSD), I want to do the same thing, any link to the solution?
LLv34_Flanker Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 S! Looks like Elite:Dangerous is shaping up well. I still have time to get Premium Beta, but...

Finkeren Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I'm trying so hard not to get too tempted by all this. It looks too great to be true. I'm not a particular hard core sci-fi fan, but the quality of the visuals, the open ended gameplay, the seemingly high detail of "flight" modelling and the sheer scope of it just takes my breath away.
DD_bongodriver Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showpost.php?p=430804&postcount=3 Grazie tanto
DD_bongodriver Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Grazie tanto Did I get this right or have I committed a faux pas?.........I mean it not sarcastically.
6S.Manu Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) Did I get this right or have I committed a faux pas?.........I mean it not sarcastically. It's correct! Di nulla! (that's something like "you're welcome") Finally I got a Cobra... I gain constantly 25k in a single trip but the market is dying again... Edited June 26, 2014 by 6S.Manu
FuriousMeow Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) I have the same idea in my setup, small drive for OS everything else on separate drives (all SSD), I want to do the same thing, any link to the solution? Sorry, had to sleep. Actually there isn't a link, unless you mean a fresh install which Manu provided. If you want to move it, you can do the fresh install for the new lancher and start it up. Login, make sure all updates for the launcher apply, but stop it once it begins downloading the game. For me, I just had to move a couple folders because my launcher was already installed on the game drive. So where the launcher is, do the Products folder like above - then locate the actual game data inside c:\Users\<yourusername>\appdata\local\Frontier_Developments and copy the FORC**** folders over to your Products folder in your alternate Launcher location. I edited the registry before doing this, but I'm not entirely sure that is necessary and probably a step I didn't need to do since the only thing that worked was actually moving the FORC-FDEV-etc folders. The other folder Fronter Developments has a folder that has Options folder and telemetry - that has to stay in the original location under your users\<username>\appdata\local\Frontier Development. DD_bongodriver Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Thanks, both bits of advice useful, turns out I still needed to update to BETA 2.1, so made a products folder on the games drive and it ugraded and installed there automatically, have deleted the products folder on C: drive and all still works
FlatSpinMan Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Just loved that 2001-style video. But I've finally decided there's no way I'm plunking down $150 or whatever. Aside from being terribly expensive for a game, I've also come to realise that I don't much care for trying out trial versions. I'd rather wait and have the finished thing. It just looks so good.
DD_bongodriver Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 it's a hefty price tag on paper but bang for buck it may turn out to be the cheapest, even better than flight sims, this likely has decades worth of gameplay ability.
kestrel79 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Tempted to get this because of the expansion packs included. When's the last day to get it with the expansion packs?
6S.Manu Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) Tempted to get this because of the expansion packs included. When's the last day to get it with the expansion packs? There's not a precise date. Anyway, from the last newsletter: Premium Beta ending soon The Premium Beta includes a lifetime Expansion Pack, which was created to reward our early backers with a lifetime access to all future expansions of the game. You can still order it here. For customers who have pre-ordered the Beta or the final game this is available now to buy in the store. Those who wish to upgrade can do so from a pre-order of the Standard Beta, or from the Final Game. The Premium Beta will remain available until 15th July but will then be no longer available. If you have already pre-ordered the standard Beta and the lifetime Expansion Pack, you only need spend an additional £15 to join the Premium Beta phase and start playing Elite: Dangerous today. Hoots Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I am so so tempted to upgrade from standard to premium beta, this is looking so good.
DD_bongodriver Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 The end credits from 5th element are relevant to anything how?
6S.Manu Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) Following up from this, we are delighted to announce that 29th July is the day we will start our Beta phase with the release of Beta 1. On the same day (29th July) we will withdraw the Lifetime Expansion Pack from sale. http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=dcbf6b86b4b0c7d1c21b73b1e&id=1824c0b05a&e=2ad01e917c Edited June 27, 2014 by 6S.Manu
Brano Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Just jumped in for Premium Beta.Never had such fun with any game recently.Good supplement while waiting for BoS and ED Dora release.Working slowly to get a grasp on my first Cobra. So many good memories from early 90´s with original Elite series
DD_Crash Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Beta backers have early access to single player combat. http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25169
Seren77 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Wow beta starts on july 29th now and as stated above you get some single player stuff to play right now. I'll be venturing in space on payday.
Brano Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 By singleplayer you mean those few missions you can fly (as kind of tutorial)? Is it true that records will be wiped out prior release of Beta? It means that it makes no sense to trade to get better ships. It is enough to use default Sidewinder and get involved in furious furballs against federals
DD_Crash Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 There will be a wipe before or as Beta is released and maybe a couple as the beta progresses.

The full game without human players. Probably with Load/Save mechanics. 2 - Probably... it remains to understand if they'll do as in PB1 -> PB2: in that case you kept the earned credits. But I guess there will be a total wipe. Edited July 10, 2014 by 6S.Manu
Brano Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 thanks for replies.I think I will stick to my decision to stop gathering credits and just do some spacedogfighting
kestrel79 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Got this last night with the expansion pass. Beta 1 is live! It will be a few weeks until I can download and play it. How is it so far?
