steppenwolf Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Damn, any game could do with that kind of terrain!! Serious talent.
TheBlackPenguin Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 Oh lord, imagine if they get this guy on board as well, http://inovaedev.blogspot.be/ Pretty good! They have a pretty small team, so I am hoping they can deliver a fun product after their Kickstarter. Its worth watching these: And: Then read this: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/12/13/hands-on-with-elite-dangerous/

6S.Manu Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 TrackIR and Oculus support added to Alpha Roll on the second round of the beta Wowowowowow
DD_fruitbat Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Track ir support is awesome news. So pleased by this. Roll on beta stage, as much as i was tempted, just cant pay 200 for a computer game to get the alpha...... but i want to! BoS, whats BoS, give me my spaceship!
Emgy Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Are you in the alpha, Manu? Elite alpha pricing made me really appreciate the BoS standard pre-order price. (Especially since they did not do 1$=1€ conversion rate like most digital retailers.) But I understand why Elite devs would want a small selection of die-hard fans for their alpha. I think with a 50$ alpha, they would have to deal with around 25k alpha players. (=number of KS backers)

Some time ago I decided to avoid alpha versions: most of the time I don't play beta version too. Infact I've played BoS for less than 2 hours. But anyway I'm going to support the interesting products: in this case the money was a little too much for my current finance.
Emgy Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Agree, I'm selective, mostly backed projects that 1) have a hard time to reach the funding target 2) look really interesting and 3) devs have a good CV and and feel worthy of trust.
sturmkraehe Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Can't wait for this remake of a huge classic in game history!
Emgy Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) Yes, really looking forward to it. If you want a quick, X-wing type fix, there's a 75mb alpha of this indie game: http://wingsofstnazaire.com/ Looks great in motion. Carrier launch is awesome! Edited February 1, 2014 by Calvamos
LLv34_Flanker Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 S! Will for sure get Elite:Dangerous. Played original Elite on C64 and CASSETTE! 1
Emgy Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Mind if I hijack for just one post? Two more games in the same genre. Variety, spice of life eh!
sturmkraehe Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) S! Will for sure get Elite:Dangerous. Played original Elite on C64 and CASSETTE! C64 too with these unbreakable Atari joysticks taken from the Atari game console (packman ...) but with 5'' diskettes already (single sided but made double sided by cutting off a rectangular piece of the plastic cover ) EDIT: WOW, no man's sky looks awesome. When will it be out? Edited February 3, 2014 by sturmkraehe
FuriousMeow Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 EDIT: WOW, no man's sky looks awesome. When will it be out? Long time from now. Their offices were destroyed in a flood. They have backups of the progress, but expect the rebuild of the office to cost a lot which is a significant set back to any project.
Emgy Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) I read about that on rockpapershotgun (who did an interview with Loft btw.) Was surprised to hear their insurance didn't cover floods. Edited February 4, 2014 by Calvamos
Emgy Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 We lost all our PCs, laptops, equipment, furniture, dev-kits, work in the blink of an eye, and our insurer (and those of those around us) seem like we won’t be covered, or at least responsibility is unclear. I don’t want to say out loud the value of what we lost, it’s horrible. It would probably fund a small game http://www.hellogames.org/2014/01/the-flood/ via rockpapershotgun.com (btw if you used to read PC Gamer UK, some of their ex-crew founded that blog.) 1
76SQN-FatherTed Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Doesn't IL2 1946 still come under the 1C/777 umbrella? When RoF went on Steam, you could get a free (?) copy of IL2 if you bought it, so I'm guessing that the studio still hold the rights to the game. I suppose he's saying that it's possible that they may revisit it.
Rama Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Doesn't IL2 1946 still come under the 1C/777 umbrella? Nope. IL2 1946 Distribution rights for the world outside Russia are still withing Ubisoft hands.... as far as I know.
Emgy Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) Actually I meant the link to the interview with Loft, but I didn't express that at all! I'll have a little search for it now I have a bit of time to spare. {edit} found this: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/11/29/the-flare-path-must-tri-harder/#more-178033 I missed this part the first time I read that: "Furthermore, we plan a lot of interesting things, such as the system of regiments, global events or online battles," Global events, interesting! Btw Mind if I hijack for just one post? Muahahah! Edited February 4, 2014 by Calvamos
DD_fruitbat Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Got the beta, cant wait for that, and have already decided that I will get oculus rift as soon as the commercial version is released. Its going to be like when I got elite as an 8 year old on my acorn electron all over again, absolutely awesome! 1
steppenwolf Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Looking very nice! Honestly, if playing this game with the Rift makes me throw up...I might be okay with that.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Wow looks amazing. I had Elite on the C64 it's got to be one of the best games ever made. Is it going to be as in depth as the original?
6./ZG26_Emil Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Is it online only or an offline game as well?
DD_fruitbat Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) Both, play it either way, also 'online single player', its up to you. http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=12329&highlight=offline Edited February 25, 2014 by fruitbat
sturmkraehe Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 When it will be out? Do we know already?
DD_fruitbat Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) No firm date yet, its in alpha 2 at the moment, alpha 3 is due in mid march, all goes well with that then it moves to beta. I've bought beta access, can't wait to try it out. Edited February 26, 2014 by fruitbat

DD_Crash Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 It looks great. I hope it will be as complex as the initial Elite with trading, exploration, pirates, ... As fruitbat said. Much more so.
DD_Crash Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Here is a link to the PC gamer page as the direct play vid was removed http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/02/25/elite-dangerous-with-the-oculus-rift-video-impressions/

SOLIDKREATE Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Wow HOW ON EARTH did I miss this! I pre-ordered Star Citizen. I wish I knew about this.
TheBlackPenguin Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Nice fan made video, "oh my God, so many Stars!" It is the first game where even now in these early stages I have felt tiny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5KdLhGweJ8
Emgy Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Cool find. I think the Elite lasers look a lot better than the very slow lasers in Star Citizen (though I may be mistaken and they're supposed to be low-velocity plasma cannons or something.)
johncage Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 skipped elite and star citizens. i have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to realism and sims. so many lift-less wings in those space games.
Emgy Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) I don't regard these games as sims, just space games. Btw they want to take Star Citizen into atmospheric and land combat as well. So they need designs that, to a casual observer, look like they can fly in atmo (like the Star Wars designs.) But I agree some of the designs are much too inspired by present day era jetfighters, especially with the large intakes. (I get it, people want their F-14 or Flanker power trip in space, but come on...) Elite's concepts I've seen, most don't have wings or stabs. Edited March 5, 2014 by Calvamos 1
TheBlackPenguin Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 A couple of videos from the upcoming Alpha 3.0, this is seriously looking impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MPP9uk08Uo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyfEqgwDHiU From what I have picked up Alpha 3 is due to land anytime this week. 4.0 end of this month, early April followed by the first premium beta release.
