Brano Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Yesterday I visited that slavery rebellion system.I found imperial battleship there with lots of pewpew going on around.Boy that was spectacular Can't believe people are already flying Asps and whatnot. I'm happy to have bought my Cobra just yesterday. Well, some people took day-off at work, most probably and are hang there 24/7 I have my cobra with some medium upgrades and total "property" of 1.4mil credits.
DD_fruitbat Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Can't believe people are already flying Asps and whatnot. I'm happy to have bought my Cobra just yesterday. Only because there was no wipe from gamma to release.
Brano Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Well, I got to my credits (peanuts compared to others) during gamma.I do not play 24/7,do not use 3rd party trading helpers or whatever it is.I just roam in that vast space,do some errands, kill few bad guys from time to time, discover new systems etc.Thats the way how it plays for me.No need to focus and grind credits inbetween 2 starsystems with red eyes focused on "damn I have to get that Conda sooon...only 1579 runs to go"
ThereIs0nly0ne Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Some CP-1 updates. The pieces made so far have been dry assembled with the base now correctly sized. Front blanking pads have also been made for the front of the seat: Extra padding has been used in the main seat panel: The internal faces of the side panels have been beveled: Top sections have been added over the shoulder area: Ejection Seat panels with embedded LEDs (one alternation between red and blue, the other constant red) and panels to go on the shoulder section have been made: An initial pass of filling and sanding done on one of the sides to make sure everything lines up: Panels on the right side in position: Display on the shoulder panel: I'll see you out there at some point Commanders ...
SYN_Blackrat Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 It does look very impressive indeed, cannot wait to see it finished, I am a bit worried about where you will be putting your glass though old chap, or maybe you have an imperial slave to hold it?

Some exploration, some missions and cashing in quite a few bounties. I'm amazed, however, how much faster money making in the Cobra can be. I started off yesterday with ~87k Cr after buying it and just after a few 700 and 400 Cr/t cargo runs (currently 36t of cargo space) I've been right back to over 300k - and the best thing is: the station I'm now allied with offered me a 290k 'get some stuff' mission which postponed my dinner but brought me right above 500k.
ThereIs0nly0ne Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Thanks Crash and Blackrat. I still have a few bits to sort out on the main section, then the headrest, the base and the pedal mount so a bit to go yet 1

Your earning goes up even more when you upgrade your cobra to a lakon 6 with a 100 cargo hold. I think its actually easier to get a fully upgaded cobra by trading it in as soon as you can for the type 6, and using the lakon to make the money to pimp out the cobra, and then buying back a cobra to do up. I actually miss my type 6, thinking of buying another one to complement my Asp. Edited December 18, 2014 by fruitbat 1
FlatSpinMan Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 With the hols coming up, I am dying to get this. Have to balance the expenditure with my beer money spending though - it's a tough choice. Actully I also wonder how it'd look on my system which is on the lower end of the spectrum. I imagine it would be okay unless there was some massive battle going on.
Matt Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 It's well optimized. I basically run it maxed out with my system. If you can run BoS resonably well on balanced, you should be able to run ED with near maximum settings. And it looks still fantastics on medium settings. I mean, 90% of what you see most of the time is empty space. I'll finally be able to get started again on the weekend. Took a break during the early days of the Gamma and am really excited now.
SYN_Blackrat Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I discovered this nifty tool for recording trading data instead of using a pen and paper or making a spreadsheet, I used the crowd sourced Slopeys tool but somehow felt it was cheating/not in the spirit also some of the data was not accurate as it has to be input by others. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=74171 I good record keeping utility I think.

Good point. While I was not planning to get into trading too much yet (I'd like to try and kit out my Cobra for exploration while still being capable of fighting), I might have to consider that. Oh well, that's something to think about next year. Have to balance the expenditure with my beer money spending though - it's a tough choice. There's no choice, really. Let's do some trade calculations. The game is 60$. How much beer can you get for that amount? How far (in terms of hours of fun) will that amount of beer get you? How many more hours of fun counld you get out of E:D? (Provided you enjoy that type of game - keep in mind that it's an open sandbox experience and (although there's storyline coming) the only really relevant story is your own.)
DD_fruitbat Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) I have found i actually really like trading, to make it work you have to do a lot of exploration around the area you are setting up in, to discover good trade routes and looking for the best returns, plus its exciting flying a stripped down except for cargo racks (no weapons, we want max jump range after all) type 6 with all those bloody pirates trying to nab your wears (you get real good at avoiding interdiction). If you really like living on the edge, you remove your shield for extra cargo racks (and pay real good attention when docking). For reference, iirc the type 6 is about 1 million, and 6 to do it right up for max jump range, Class A fsd, class A powerplant, class A power distributer and class A thrusters being essential (so you can run away!) point defence, chaff and heatsink are a good idea to. FlatSpinMan Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 All very interesting guys. I actually got as far as step 2 in the checkout process just before, then I thought of the very good games I haven't played much/finished yet. I will get this though, it'S just a matter of when. I went back to XCom again tonight to get my sci-fi thrills that way. It should hold me for a while. I don't know how long I can last though.
Brano Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 The plot is there and is slowly rolling.Check the News tab when docking,it says about this slave rebellion in one of imperial systems.Go there, see the beauty of imperial battleship over there.Check the Imperial Cobras that are flying around - they got 2 plasma accelerators as standard weapons There are also interesting missions as you can either support Imperials or Rebels. That choice gives you another storyline and missions. There is also news about some freshly discovered drug in some Federation system and its prohibition. That could be interesting for them shady characters This places also naturaly attract lots of human players so there is real chance for some PvP encounters. With such plots injected by game from time to time it gives you really neverending flow of new adventures.I like it a lot

=LD=Hethwill Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Trading is meh... Now trading on illegal goods, that's more interesting. Head hunting and Smuggling. Proper game and no paper work.

FlatSpinMan Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I like those story elements. I was reading 'the news' on the main site and it featured similar events. That would really bring the universe to life.
=LD=Hethwill Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) Got involved in a local civil war. Mission after mission successful for on of the contenders ( anti-fed ) and up to good standing relations with them. Problem is most missions are trade blockade and assassinations, which I don't mind but oh boy the bounty on my head over on the fed side and on the opposition faction... Eventually I was brought down by a fed patrol Interdiction, 2 vipers and a anaconda... couldn't runaway... 2 high energy beamers just wrecked me for good at start of fight and even shield cells couldn't make for the difference in fire-power. Let me say I'm flying a fully pimped up Adder ( the speed and manoeuvrability along with its survivability of it is unbeatable by any other small ship including the cobra or the viper ) for Bounty Hunting and Smuggling. Did bring down every type of ship before but these latest combats been absolutely atrocious and violently fun. Edited December 19, 2014 by =LD=Hethwill_Khan 1
Matt Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Good to know. I was planning to get the Adder anyway (still flying Sidewinder) to fill the gap until i can afford a Cobra, but if it's that good, then i might even skip the Cobra and keep the Adder for a bit longer. I was planning to focus on smuggling and it seems to be a pretty good choice for that.
FlatSpinMan Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 This all sounds better and better. If choosing sides makes a difference, that's great. I'm starting to get Han Solo visions..
DD_fruitbat Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 This all sounds better and better. If choosing sides makes a difference, that's great. I'm starting to get Han Solo visions.. A group of people got together in the Lugh system to see if they could influence things and overthrow the government by flying with one of the minor factions 'Crimson Tide', with interesting results, they managed to trigger civil war there 3 times. The devs have been watching with interest as well. see this thread, https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=79992 If i'd of been a bit closer i would of gone over to help out, but i'm a long long long way away. I'm still trying to stay under the radar of the Empire, Alliance and Federation, going to wait and see developments particularly with the news of the emperors impending demise before making a rash decision! 1
Matt Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) I guess there's no way to get your original ship back, when you couldn't afford the insurance fee while you ship blew up right? Got lost in space and ran out of fuel. Flew through 7 different systems, but none of them had a station to fuel up and i didn't have a fuel scoop at the time. Edited December 30, 2014 by Matt
SYN_Blackrat Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Correct, Elite is harsh if you do not plan for the worst......
Matt Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Ah well, didn't lose that much. Was planning to start fresh anyway. Only had an Adder, which i kind of hate, horrible visibility. I had every ship lower than the Cobra and still like the Sidewinder the best somehow. Viper = too short jump range Adder = bad visibility Hauler = basically just a worse Adder Eagle = basically just a worse Viper (though i think it has a longer jump range, at least before adding any upgrades) I think i'll just stick to the Sidney or Freagle, upgrade everything and then go straight for the Cobra next time.
VR-DriftaholiC Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 After a week of playing nightly I finally need a break. I just got my fully kitted ASP and less than 5 mins into my test drive I was attempting to try out my cargo scanner in front of a space station and had the wrong firegroup selected... needless to say the station relieved me of my hard earned 7,000,000 ASP. I now have a Sidewinder again. I think this time around I'll do some more pirating instead of trading. 2
Bando Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 OUCH!!!!! I feel your pain. I just have purchased my ASP. It's got some "C" class features I want to change, but I will need to run some goods first. I'm totally lost in this game at the moment. Real life is a terrible break up of play time with Christmas and all.....
DD_fruitbat Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) Loving this a lot at the moment as well, miss my Asp, at some point will get another for sure, but that miss is tempered by being sat in a Python configured for haulage at the moment. Can't decide whether to trade it in for a type 9 soon though, as I'm around the asking price at the moment, or A grading the Python for gratuitous combat fun (which is phenomenally expensive). The earning potential in the type 9 is huge though, if i can be bothered with the grind, choices choices.... Oh and never ever ever fly with out insurance, elite is harsh if you do. Matt Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Finally had some time to start again. I'm currently mostly bounty hunting and decided to get a Viper to replace the Eagle. The short jump distance was not a real problem, because i mostly stuck in two different system (one Federation, one Empire, pretty handy to have them close together to get all bounties). It doesn't take too long get a decent income. Asps usually give around 40 k and are easy targets. I think i'll now just stick to the Viper and upgrade it until i have B rating modules for everything (perhaps A rating thrusters) and then i'll buy a Cobra in addition to the Viper and later replace the Cobra with better ships, when i can afford it (unless i prefer the Cobra to the Viper, then i'll probably just replace the Viper instead). I only wish the visiblity of the Viper would be better. The upward view is really bad for a fighter like that. I'm curious if one of the unreleased ships can count as a replacement for the Viper in the future.
DD_fruitbat Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) A modules are lighter than B's, will increase jump range. A, C and E weigh the same, D's are the lightest, B's the heaviest. An A rated power distributor is (along with fsd) the most important upgrade on any ship. Edited January 5, 2015 by fruitbat
3instein Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 On the fence about this one, I may buy in the next few days, either that or hold out for Total War Attila, Elite does look good though. Mick.

VR-DriftaholiC Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 lately I'm feeling like I've done all this game has to offer. I rarely see players and trying to play with friends is almost impossible to get the same instance. Hopefully the wings update will come soon and make the game fun again instead of a grind fest.
Emgy Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) I've seen significantly more players since the latest patch which improved matchmaking. Still I think the game still needs a lot more meat on its bones. The conflict zones aren't terribly immersive. After the initial honeymoon period, bounty hunting/exploring/mining/trading feel like an MMO, but in an MMO you can do lots of stuff together. Let's hope the wings update adds lots of features. Shared quest&bounty rewards would be nice. Edited January 9, 2015 by Calvamos
