Are you guys all playing Open Mode?

I am.

Posted

I used to play in closed group with my brother earlier in Beta,as it was much smoother to enter/exit starsystems due to problems with instancing when many players were online. Now it works good and I play open game. But as we have now whole galaxy at our disposal,it is really rare to meet human beings out there. My starting system was cca 100ly from Sol system and now I operate near Aquarius constellation around EZ Aquarii and Lacaille 9352.Allready friend with some oligarch Jet Family.Their Coriolis base is now friendly green for me and they always greet me "Welcome, commander" :)

Well, I've had my lakon 6 for a while now, and have come to the conclusion that pure trading with anything that has a 100 cargo plus is the easiest/quickest way to make money.

Thinking of buying a Viper now, and doing the full upgrade on it, before spending the rest of the gamma going pew pew at everybody.

Posted

I'm still adjusting my setup.

CMS for navigating the menus and for deploying/retracting hardpoints (by pushing down), use up/down for sensor range and left/right for selecting fire groups.

TMS for targeting, up=target ahead, left/right next/previous target, down=biggest threat (left/right also for previous/next tab in the menu)

Nose wheel steering button = rotational correction

Master control button = lights on/off

Paddle switch = FSD engage/disengage

DMS = power distribution

Speed brake switch forward = flight assist toggle on/off, backward = boost

Boat switch foward = cargo scoop, backward = silent running
China hat foward = heat sink launcher, back = chaff

AP engage/disengage button = gear down/up

Landing gear warning horn button = hyperspace jump

But i think a lot of that won't stay the way it is now. For instance, i would like to be able to toggle the landing gear, deploying hardpoints etc. and put it on one of the two way switches instead, but that's not possible (yet?).

Thanks Matt, had a look around and tweaked some stuff out there already, using the hold option for Cargo scoop and silent running, others I just double switch to toggle, but not too many.

Very impressive :) bye the way there is NO wipe on December 16. It pleases some but not others.

Posted

It pleases me, I have a 10 million cobra and a 6 million lakon 6!!!!!

I did have a fully pimped Viper for one flight, then sold it for the cobra.......

Only cost 2.5ish million to fully pimp the Viper though. Just didn't really like it much myself.

Now to get an Asp.......

 No wipe at launch
Hi guys,

This is just a quick update to confirm that there won't be a wipe at launch.

Any questions (I'm sure you've got 'em

They actually hinted a while ago about "2 weeks advance for the pre-orders".

Guess I interpreted it right.

It IS Elite all over again and it is great. I spend more time charting the unknown than anything else. Love to watch the stellar bodies, discovering planets and moons and fighting my way through these uncharted anarchy systems.

2015 looks good with the implementation of all the player based mission generation and wings.

Maybe I'm old (of course I am) but what's so sexy about those space games?

WW1 & WW2 are kind of 'personal' to me.

Not so all those radar jets and space ships

You can't challenge the flight models

Nah, I am a Sci Fi person, ever since as a kid the Apollo landings sparked my imagination and Dan Dare in the Eagle comic was a must read, I am quite enjoying the challenge of a Blade runner type universe with no instruction book ;)

For me, it's because I'm old-ish! Elite was the first game I really got addicted to. Far too many hours at University were lost to playing it. It pre-dates pretty much anything else of significance I've ever played.

If you have ever looked at the night sky and thought  "I wonder what it looks like up there " then this gives you an idea of what it must be like. Just as combat flight sims give an insight as to what it must have been like flying in WW2

ED is the first space game i bought since Freespace 2 (back in 1999, still the best space game imho, atleast for SP). And i only really bought ED because of the DK2.

ED is a great game, but if you never liked space games, you most likely won't like ED either. It's an open world game, with no real story, no historical background and i wouldn't even call it a "realistic" future space sim. I'm surprised that games like these (ED, SC etc.) are that sucessful, especially compared to historical flightsims or historical games in general.

Release announced

Hi,

Just a quick note to let everyone know we are working towards making Elite: Dangerous 1.0 available for download at midday GMT tomorrow (16.12.14).

Thank you so much to everyone who supported us, participated in the early access, and made tomorrow’s release possible.

See you out there, Commanders.

I just noticed that before their forum went offline.

So at 11pm (here) I might get to install it finally.

Can't wait! :D

I am loving this game more than i should, because of its connections to my childhood, as an eight year old playing elite on an acorn electron.

But damn its beautiful and fun. Sure its not the finished article despite the 'official' release tomorrow, but it still better than most games that i've played, and I like the way the developers have dealt with things, communication, plans and fixes.

In the last four days i think there has been 7 patches (mind you gamma 2 release was not smooth!).

I'm now in a Asp, with everything 'A' rated, and the galaxy is my Lobster.

Perfect description.

I always cackle madly at the "I don't want to be challenged by the unknown" crowd populating the forums there, and on the positive side the veterans always try to guide the herd to the beautiful things in ED - exactly what you said, an entire universe with no rulebook nor manuals.

Every single session I log I find something new, some new mechanic such as "let's have fun multiplayer by using each other FSD and jump into the same signal sources" - and shut up the nay sayers about MP being absent...

Posted

I am "star wars" kid and saw almost all classic sci-fi movies and series.I like mostly that what-if future, how the universe could look like in 1000 years.Next point is,that in this game it is not that famous "in a galaxy far,far away".It is our Milky Way galaxy! I used to attend to astronomy classes back at primary school. We learnd to spot constellations, give directions according star positions etc.Everything starts in childhood.Same as with flightsims.I was raised by my father to become virtual figter pilot.Starting with paper and plastic kits and slowly transfering to virtual area when computers got more power.

And the best of it - you can get from Earth to Alfa Centauri within few seconds :)

Hey guys, I played it in gamma for a bit mainly bounty hunting with the free eagle.

How did you find the combat mechanics/depth? I never found any other Commanders to fight but plenty of NPCs... they were unchallenging to say the least, got very repetitive after a few hours.

Will this change with better ships or is it simply how ED space combat works?

I tried upgrading to a Viper as i got the cash but that cockpit was so claustrophobic I switched back to the eagle immediately.

I love it's massive scope though and I might be willing to see past some shallow combat just for the huge environment. So cool to explore a system in Sol neighborhood and be able to go out for a smoke break on the balcony and find the star in the night sky

Try to attack more challenging ships like Pythons or Anacondas :) This game is ment to be played mostly in cooperative PvE style. As all players are part of elite Pilots Federation.Of course you can play a bad guy,but IMO most pilots follow this original idea of cooperation = not much PvP here.

What I find a bit strange is damage system in particular for how it is represented in ability of damaged enemy to perform certain actions.Like focusing gunfire at FSD does not prevent the enemy to enter hyperspace, even his drive is at 10% or even 0.Same goes for powerplant or thrusters. One would think that if I bring one of two thrusters out, that damn guy can not enter hyperspace under any circumstances (as full thrust is required to spool FSD).That makes targeting particular systems quite invalid and I generaly focus on general pewpew all over them   And seeker missiles are quite weak for their cost.

I've killed plenty of Anacondas, they aren't any more dangerous, they just takes longer time to kill.

I'm gonna give the game another try tonight and see what they added for the release. Anyone of you found any good populated systems to play in around the Sol? I think I logged out around Alcor & Mizar system (quite close to Sol system.) Anyone of you around Sol? Can you add players to a friends list yet?  My name is Penshoon if you like to add me.

I'm at the system called Duaman or sth.. just one or two jumps away from Sol. I see one or two commanders.. I heard that there's lots of players at systems with rich asteroid belts.

About the AI battle, try to find conflict zone (high intensity). Also fighting with capital ship is quite challenging.

Could it be Luhman 16? Binary Brown dwarf system about 7ly away from Sol.

Supposed to have two two stations, Heisenberg Colony & Jenner Orbital. Will try to move there tonight if it's the one  :salute:

Go to Lave ;)

I met lots of well equipped AI Pythons and Condas with defensive turrets mounted on and boy they gave me a beating

I used to operate near EZ Aquarii, there are agriculture, industry, refinig, high tech systems and it is only few jumps from Sol.Now I am in Lave doing some slavery missions. They are hard to find

You can add players as friends directly when you meet them via comm window or most probably also via main menu by typing their nickname - not sure about that.Mine is Cmdr Brano

I've kind off been calling the Amarak/Halai sytems home, no where i can get all the different commodities from nearby in this area.

Although i have been going to the Lave area quite a bit, as there are 6 different rare commodities all within one jump of Lave, and filling up 80 tonnes of these in my Asp, and then flying 160lys back to my home area will net 1.5million.

Been hunting wanted pythons and anacondas lately for a change
