Emgy Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Well, your friends and others can see the skin when they fly with you.
Blooddawn1942 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Then I would suggest that they should pay for my skins.
Trooper117 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 As the site page informs me I can't buy into the game and play it yet... I bought into Star Citizen instead (protective armour on and shields up)... hehehe!

I bought into Star Citizen instead (protective armour on and shields up)... hehehe! Shhh, I have both But I am playing Elite, just wondering if I will be too old to play SC when it comes out, maybe my access can become a family Heirloom and get handed down through the generations until the game comes out 3
DD_fruitbat Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Gamma 1.02 incoming as I type, including fix for oculus A bit of advice for all my fellow commanders..... No matter how many times you've docked before, and think that your an expert, i'd still give it more consideration than what i did yesterday (which was none unfortunately!). Never crashed before docking, scoffed at those who have, until rushing to dock quickly I boosted to close and put myself straight into the wall of a Coriolis, below the entry slot unable to pull up in time. Boom. Insurance covered the cost of a shiny new cobra, shame about the 250k+ of gold that had been in my cargohold, left myself with 4000 credits to start trading from again. Twat.

Another advice: if you use a X52 Pro then before entering in the station always check if the cable between throttle and stick is correctly plugged; once I was to enter and I realized the lateral thrust was not working, but when I just touched the cable (I knew it was the cause) the ship started to fire against the station 10 meter ahead... I've escaped with 3% of hull. Edited November 26, 2014 by 6S.Manu

To add insult to injury, it took me 2.5 hours to get back to where i had been financially, by mostly doing go fetch/take here BB missions, by which time the trade route i had been running had dried up, lol. Still plenty of opportunities out there, moved into coffee, guns and superconducters now, halfway to my lakon6 goal for the gamma period. Edited November 26, 2014 by fruitbat
Brano Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I decided just to upgrade my Sidewinder a bit and do mostly headhunting sweeps near nav beacons together with mapping of uncharted areas. And ofcourse a must - journey back to cradle of humanity

Emgy Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Just realized what a massive effort it will be to implement visitable planet surfaces in this game, since they have our real solar system in-game.
DD_Arthur Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Beginning to understand why Colin wanted to ignore this thread . Wtf are you all talking about?.............I'll get me coat.
Tab Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 having a blast with E:D since today (as a pre-orderer I am limited to the tutorials though). But, fellow pilots, what is the best way to map the axes of the 3-axis pedals and the x-52 pro?

I/JG27_Rollo Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Damn you Frontier! Giving out free Cobra paintjobs without me having one.

But, fellow pilots, what is the best way to map the axes of the 3-axis pedals and the x-52 pro? I do have pedals and I use them in same way as in aircraft = for yaw axis.Joy is standard direction change up/down/left/right.For vertical and side thrusters I use some buttons on base of my saitek evo. When docking,I usually also use keybord default WASD+QE (side thrusters).

The Logitech G940 is quite good for elite, the mini stick on the main joystick is quite handy as a proportional control for lateral and vertical thrust, you can control all 6 degrees of motion with hands on HOTAS.
DD_Crash Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Beginning to understand why Colin wanted to ignore this thread . Wtf are you all talking about?.............I'll get me coat. You can do stuff like this
Tab Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I do have pedals and I use them in same way as in aircraft = for yaw axis.Joy is standard direction change up/down/left/right.For vertical and side thrusters I use some buttons on base of my saitek evo. When docking,I usually also use keybord default WASD+QE (side thrusters). thanks. I find yawing a bit useless in e:d so far, so I mapped my x52 twist to yaw and the Z-axis of the pedals to left-right latteral thrust. The only problem are toe brakes. I cannot figure out how to map them to vertical thrust as analog axis - they're two different axes, being 0% while in rest. Shame that you cannot assign axes separately to latteral thrust up and down
SYN_Blackrat Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I have the thrust left, right up and down mapped to a Hat on my Warthog throttle, I am experimenting with using the yaw input on my rudder pedals together with the thrust to do a circle strafe, pretty handy for docking on outposts as I can move sideways but keeping the nose pointed in one direction, bit like a rotary in ground taxi. Also Yaw on the rudder pedals makes entering the station so much easier. Still working may way through and have yet to assign toe brakes to anything.

Shame that you cannot assign axes separately to latteral thrust up and down Problem solved. For future references, all you need is to download and setup vJoy (didn't work properly until I created a device with ID = 16) and UJR - universal joystick profiler. this video will help with vJoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu3S0Q6M0tY (skip to the 2nd half) and UJR contains an example in its GUI (tab "Axes 2") how to merge two pedal axes into one.
Matt Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I use the pedals for yaw and the toe brakes for thrust forward/backward (I only control forward thrust with the throttle). So I use the brakes mostly when docking or when reversing. Then I use the trim hat on my Warthog for thrust up/down/left/right.
DD_Arthur Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Only the cool kids are in to Elite anyway Arthur........... Fair enough. I have a boxed set of Red Dwarf on DVD and I'm a member of this; http://www.normanlockyer.com/Our%20Site.html Would this help? Must look fantastic with the 'Rift Bongo.
voncrapenhauser Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Loved original Elite. Looks awesome and will probably take over your life

I dabble din Beta, but since Gamma came out i am giving it a bit of a closer look, not too close as they will probably wipe again, but for the first time I have green ships on the scanner :-)
Matt Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I'm still adjusting my setup. CMS for navigating the menus and for deploying/retracting hardpoints (by pushing down), use up/down for sensor range and left/right for selecting fire groups. TMS for targeting, up=target ahead, left/right next/previous target, down=biggest threat (left/right also for previous/next tab in the menu) Nose wheel steering button = rotational correction Master control button = lights on/off Paddle switch = FSD engage/disengage DMS = power distribution Speed brake switch forward = flight assist toggle on/off, backward = boost Boat switch foward = cargo scoop, backward = silent running China hat foward = heat sink launcher, back = chaff AP engage/disengage button = gear down/up Landing gear warning horn button = hyperspace jump But i think a lot of that won't stay the way it is now. For instance, i would like to be able to toggle the landing gear, deploying hardpoints etc. and put it on one of the two way switches instead, but that's not possible (yet?).
Brano Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Yesterday I got disconnected from master server like 3 times.Geez I will never get to Mother Earth But allready grabbed free skins for Cobra and one for Sidewinder.
DD_Crash Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Yet another update Gamma 1.04 Change LogThe servers will be shut down at 3pm GMT and a new client (version 1.04) will be available about half an hour after that. Emgy Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 But allready grabbed free skins for Cobra and one for Sidewinder. The store went offline after I put a free Cobra skin pack in my cart, I think I broke the store server .
ThereIs0nly0ne Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Made some solid progress on the side pods for the CP-1 command seat:
AndyJWest Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 It seems from the website that they've stopped selling early access, and that if I pre-order the release Mercenary Edition I'll have to wait until December the 16th to play. There is apparently a 'combat training demo' I can download immediately though - is it worth bothering with?

I/JG27_Rollo Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Afaik, it's a bunch of scenarios to get you familiar with the basics of docking, jumping and fighting. The former are good to get the controls sorted out while the fighting scenarios can get rather tricky (for me at least ). If it's the same as the Tutorial in the Early Access version, the last one should be a gauntlet so there's some replayability value. If you're planning to buy anyway, the discount and the additional goodies should definitely make it worth the pre-order.
=LD=Hethwill Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 The best Tutorial mission, the one where you really get to learn the systems use proper, is the stealth and heat management one. The game is absolutely great, despite some short comings which will be solved I am sure ( yes yes instanced grouping I am looking at you ! )
Brano Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 (edited) Well,my transaction for free Cobra skinset went OK.Unfortunately I cant try them out as I am still grinding space credits to buy one.Now I am in my orange Viper doing some bad guys wipes at nav beacons. And finally visited Earth! Edited December 1, 2014 by Brano
DD_bongodriver Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I'm in no hurry to get to earth, I hear that place is full of 'a holes'
Brano Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Well,on Venus there is Maat Mons visible (at least I think it should be it).I saw India and part of pacific when I closed to earth, but did not have time to inspect rest of the planets.
=LD=Hethwill Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 In a hurry huh !? :D Time is credits... cannot be Interdict.... eeeeeed !! Godamn not again....
Brano Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Interdictions are easy to evade. And when I am in mood to let myself be interdicted, there is no issue with my Viper to sort it out. I went for Alpha Centauri to see first star system visited by earthlings and then just got distracted by other grinding issues
I/JG27_Rollo Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I hear that place is full of ... Are you guys all playing Open Mode?
