TheBlackPenguin Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 This really ought to have a thread of its own. Anyway, this is the latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6WmsnwNq98 The planets will be 1:1 scale and follow realistic orbits. And the latest Newsletter: http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=dcbf6b86b4b0c7d1c21b73b1e&id=f703580f39#7 With BOS and a few other games I think I am set .
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I am liking the damage the canopy can take, or the freezing effect or seeing things going sideways in your cockpit... "Hang on while I put out this electrical fire..." I really hope there will be a reliability element to components.
ram0506 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Nice video! Btw, the keyboard in the spaceship cockpit seen at 3:00 of the vid, is that a C64! Haha, would have been a great idea! In remembrance of the origins of ELITE.
Skoshi_Tiger Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I had elite on my first computer. It was ported to the Apple ][+ as well.
6S.Manu Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Ok... I'm a new backer (Second Round Private Beta).
DD_Crash Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I think I will go for that too. All expansion packs and Beta for £80
DD_Crash Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 If anyone is interested in getting in before the price goes up read this thread http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8731
FuriousMeow Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) Second Round Private Beta back now as well. Unfortunately I don't have enough time for RoF, BF4, BoS, Star Citizen and this. Looks like I'll be terrible at all five rather than medicore at one. Edited December 1, 2013 by FuriousMeow
DD_Crash Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Just bought the boxed version (includes T shirt+ A3 map) all future expansions and 2nd round beta
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I picked an ancestor of mine, a WW1 pilot - in fact the first US pilot to score and air-to-air victory - Kiffin Rockwell. 1
Kappone Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 ,,, ohhhh .. ohhh ... oh my god ! Elite was my favourite game on my first home computer ( commodore 64) , didn't know it could be back , hope it will make me dream again !
DD_Crash Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 There is no news when the alpha is out. Some have speculated that it could be Monday.
TheBlackPenguin Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 We may learn something later this week: https://elite.frontier.co.uk/backers/login/
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Wow those beam weapons look scary effective.
Valisk61 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) I lost an entire summer of my childhood to Elite. I have fond memories of my first 'simpit' - a massive cardboard box big enough to sit inside, with a TV sized hole cut at one end with a 14" portable telly on the other side. Ahh happy days. I can't help but feel sorry for David Braben, he's been trying to get a 'next gen' Elite funded for years... he finally finds a mechanism to do it and arrives in second place after Chris Robert's Star Citizen juggernaut. I'll definitely be buying it on release though, I'd go for early access, but I just don't have time to spend sat in a cardboard box anymore Edited December 12, 2013 by Valisk61
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Time will tell how it compares to Star Citizen. I bought into both, personally, but for different reasons.
=AH=_Sid_ Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I have to say I'm very impressed so far, very polished for an Alpha release. 9 initial missions to complete (you have to unlock them in order), completed the first two so far. 2
SYN_DerHesse70 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Looks very good. I think i will buy it. Just like Star Citizen.
SYN_Vander Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) I have to say I'm very impressed so far, very polished for an Alpha release. ... 9 initial missions to complete (you have to unlock them in order), completed the first two so far. Looks like a nice alpha! I have beta access only, so still have to wait a little.... Edited December 13, 2013 by SYN_Vander
FlatSpinMan Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Thanks for pointing me to this. It looks really interesting. £200 for Alpha seems a tad pricey, but I might go for one of the reasonable Beta versions. Man, it's a great time to be a guy who likes flightsims, space stuff, and superhero movies.
Valisk61 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 When I read 'Locate and destroy the CRIMSON TRIUMPH', I couldn't help thinking...
TheBlackPenguin Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Taking on that Anaconda seriously reminded of dive bombing/torpedo attacks on a warship, although this one is armed with some nasty lasers. Brilliant so far, I love the way the ships are modelled, the sidewinder reminds me of a mix between aircraft, tank and submarine and its not been easy to pick up.
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Beauty! what are those long firing beam weapons that seem to carve up anything the touch like a hot knife through butter, and are they as effective as they look in the videos?
TheBlackPenguin Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Beauty! what are those long firing beam weapons that seem to carve up anything the touch like a hot knife through butter, and are they as effective as they look in the videos? They are lasers and you're seeing the beam variety, they produce a lot of heat and can overheat quite easily. The pulse laser is another version, and yes they are pretty effective. We'll be able to buy better modules/shields etc and so the effectiveness will vary.
TheBlackPenguin Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 I had better add, if you a short burst of blue that's the rail gun.
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I would describe it as a continuous bean weapon. It seems to wreak havoc on whatever it touches from fighters to capital ships. I really like what they said about heat and detection. Does movement create heat or just acceleration?
=LD=dhyran Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Yes! i jumped in as an early backer, tow friendds of mine too! My commander name was dhyran back in 1984, and its registerd allready at the new version too Well, yes, we sat in front of a bbc micro and a C64. 5 Guys, a bottle of scotch, 24 beers, millions of planets, the thargoids, and we foght through the night, what a summer we had, we went back from the discothek, instead of going into bed, we all went into our elite cellar and played a couple of hours through till we all felt asleep. crazy good times, those will never be forgotten, each one flew from station to staion, saved his account, and so the next one loaded his game and so on. oh my, and now it will be multiplayer, we old farts are going to fly together than, watch out guys :D 1
Valisk61 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I had the 'Space Traders Flight Trading Manual' from the Speccy version on my wall for years. It's a bit faded now... I found it again last week when I was digging out the Christmas deccies, so I put it back up:
steppenwolf Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I just watched some YouTube videos of the Alpha. It's really looking nice. The non-static POV and cockpit particle effects caught my eye! Looks like Space Sims have just one-upped Flight Sims.
DD_fruitbat Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 hmmmm, this years Christmas present to myself me thinks...... 1
DD_fruitbat Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Oh lord, imagine if they get this guy on board as well, http://inovaedev.blogspot.be/
