Friggitotti Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 (edited) This is my third post on this topic. Is about a mounth that the anniversary update of Windows 10 is out. You can't sell a game for about 50 euros that everytime I close it I have to shut down my pc !!! I had enough of this game. I am not the only one that is speaking about this bug, maybe is time to change something ? Is not a good thing for a pc to being shut down every time with the Power switch, when it will bè damaged enough you'll payback it ? [edited] I had enough. 216th_Jordan Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 You have to shut down the PC? Tried Ctrl + Alt + Delete and end process? Or did you try ending the game with Alt +F4 instead of normal procedure. And please calm down a little, software can be tough and I don't have a problem as you do and many others neither so maybe the problem is also on your end. 5

Do you think that is normal for a game like a il-2 ti be close with alt+f4 ? And this is not a new bug this is 1 mounth or more old. Extreme_One Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 FWIW I have Windows 10 Anniversary Update and IL2BOS ends properly for me. To me, this suggests it's neither a problem with IL2 or Windows but with your PC. 1

Extreme_One Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 I have to? lol Anyway, I presume the anniversary update messed with some drivers in your PC. If it were me, I would wipe and reinstall all drivers: motherboard/chipset and GPU. If this doesn't fix the issue I would uninstall IL2 and reinstall. If this doesn't fix the issue I would uninstall Windows and reinstall. If this doesn't work I would begin disabling devices one at a time to isolate which could be causing the issue, start with joysticks, headtracking, external drives etc etc. Troubleshooting a problem like this can take time and be frustrating. The alternative is to live with the issue and hope future patches to Windows and/or drivers and/or IL2BOS fix the issue. 1
unreasonable Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 If it was me I would uninstall and then reinstall IL2 first! A lot easier. and just do the obvious things like defrag your drive, delete your IL2 folders and check you have enough space left before reinstall. Otherwise just as Extreme_One said. 1
Matt Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 I would try using a DVI cable to connect the screen, if that's possible. Because it seems to be related to HDMI somehow. 1
No_85_Gramps Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 (edited) If you uncheck full-screen mode in IL2 it exits correctly, or if you alt-tab to the desktop you can close it from the task bar. I don't know if it's a driver problem, video card, or a Win 10 problem, but it is a problem. I'm inclined to think it's related more to WIn 10 than anything else. When you run the game in full-screen mode windows does not keep any other screens in the background, when you alt-tab back to the desktop you force windows to redraw the desktop, and the problem goes away. When you exit directly from full-screen mode there's a hiccup and windows does not return to the desktop, the screen goes black and it requires a power button re-start. Just use one of the work arounds for the time being. There have been tickets submitted regarding this issue. I may have to try Matt's suggestion. Edited October 22, 2016 by Gramps 1
=LG=Wicher Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 I have windows 10 too and no problems with exiting the game for me
E69_geramos109 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I have the same problem with windows 10. If i close the game all the pc freeze and i can not go to the deskop with ctl alt sub, alt tab etc. And i have to shut off the pc. What i make is going the deskop at first and after that close the game from there. But now i have also some problems when im loading screen of the server. There i have to restart the pc
Guest deleted@30725 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 (edited) Oh good. Glad I'm not the only one having this issue (win 10, most up to date windows patches + graphics drivers. HDMI to a TV). It seems to happen completely random. Exit game, black screen. Sometimes can ctrl+alt+del to end it or alt+tab to get to desktop and close it, other times not. I have SSD to re-boot is 5 seconds, but it never used to happen. I care more about the VMS running and the tabs I have open than Il2 having to re-start. Game crash would almost be better! I have full screen checked, so maybe if I try without this checked it will stop it from happening? Edited October 30, 2016 by deleted@30725
NobbyNobbs Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 If you see a black screen while closing the game, try to use window mode instead of fullscreen in the game settings. 1
Voidhunger Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Hi, since I have joined the black screen party after the new update, are there any news from the developers about this thing? Its very annoying to close game with Alt+F4. I often forget to end game with these keys and need to restart PC
Voidhunger Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) Hmm I dont think it has something to do with the GPU drivers. I have the same nvidia drivers as before the update. Anyway after last forced restart I have frozen launcher on the desktop which is impossible to close.(Only with the task manager). But thats not a big thing, I´ll start the game without the launcher. EDIT: I can close the launcher before I click on the Play button Edited November 19, 2016 by Voidhunger
F/JG300_Gruber Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 One solution that worked for a couple guys in our squad is to delete the update folder in the IL2 folder and let the launcher update the game properly. You might have to do this a couple time if some files have a hard time installing themselves correctly. But we all have W10 and nobody is blackscreening anymore.
E69_geramos109 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Extract the hdmi conector and put it again. It works
Voidhunger Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Launcher update didnt work (several times) Remove/insert HDMI cable didnt work New Nvidia driver didnt work Only when the fullscreen is unchecked it works
Felix58 Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 I did have this issue and I remember it was an easy fix (for me). Not sure 100% what I did, but I do remember it was in Options - Display. With this setting I have no issues. HIGH SSAO - on Dist land - Normal FPS 60 Anti 4 Gamma 1
LLv34_Untamo Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 S! I have the launcher closing issue as well. Almost everytime after I close the game, the launcher refuses to close, and I have to use Task "Damager" to close it.
Voidhunger Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Extract the hdmi conector and put it again. It works Ok, it works, thanks. How safe is unplugging HDMI cable with power ON ?
4ADCocteau Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 There has to be a better way for this instead of unpluging stuff. I'd like top have it run like any other game..... Alt F4 works for me for now but I'll dig into it.
Guest deleted@30725 Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Ok, it works, thanks. How safe is unplugging HDMI cable with power ON ? This is safe as you're just disconnecting the video signal / audio a bit like un-plugging a usb mouse while the computer is on. Obviously some slight extra wear if you do this several times a day for several years and possible damage if you don't put the cable in right or try and force it in the wrong way. You could potentially damage your hdmi port if you yank the cable side to side. I've found this bug to be really inconsistent. Sometimes it does it, others not on Windows 10. Either alt + f4 while game open, alt +tab while in the game and then right click the game at task bar and close or close the game from its menu then when black screen at desktop re-plug your hdmi cable to get desktop back. You can also try running the game not in full screen mode which may or may not have an effect.
Voidhunger Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 So, I searched internet and there are a lot of games with this problem. One solution is that Windows sometimes change your refresh rate from 60 to 59 Hertz and changing this value back to 60 worked for some people. Since I have refresh rate at default at 60Hz I changed it to 59Hz and it works without problem. (or you can try to slightly overclock to 61 and more). Hope it helps for you guys as well

JG13_opcode Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Wow lots of bad advice in this thread. Start disabling devices one at a time? Yeesh, what a lot of wasted effort. Fixed the issue for both me and my wingman. If you see a black screen while closing the game, try to use window mode instead of fullscreen in the game settings.
StG2_Manfred Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) I changed the Hertz frequence back to 60 and additional deactivated fullscreen mode. Unfortunately the problem persists. As soon as I put on my headset and Track IR gets the first contact the game stops working. After 2 to 3 restarts I get it to work. Mmmh, no idea at the moment. It worked flawlessly before the Windows 10 update.... Edited December 13, 2016 by StG2_Manfred
