smink1701 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Won't be able to play for a few days so please let me know what I'm missing
Jade_Monkey Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Yes please! Maybe a bit tonight but nothing proper until tomorrow for me.
216th_Jordan Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Ground handling is downright awesome now. Rudder inputs lead to much more direct direction with the tire sidegrip, almost rolled onto my wingtip when I was trying it in may takeoff roll. planes also accept harder landings and look amazing, just did a heavy crosswind landing in the yak-1 and was very impressed how well it performed in such circumstances now. Can't talk about the other changes but it also looks like some animation effects (bomb explosions) have changed too. 1
Bando Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Made a lot of landings with the LA5 (imho the hardest one to land without groundlooping). It all went well, even with a lot of crosswind, no groundloops. You still have to work for it, but the frustrating right full rudder and right full brakes with a left hand ground loop that just keeps going, I did not experience.
kissklas Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 The Pe-2 felt a lot less somersaulty. I like. 2
JimTM Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I tried some circuits in the Yak-1 and the Pe-1 and I think the landing behaviour is quite nice. The Yak-1 is also more stable now while taxiing with the tail wheel unlocked.
Jade_Monkey Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 For me the la5 must be one of the hardest. P40 too when it decides to spin and there is no tailwheel lock.
Finkeren Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 My first impressions based on a handful of test flights and 5 airstart missions: 1. New ground physics. Very good impressions overall. Somehow I get the feeling, that landings are a bit too easy now, but maybe I've just been punished by the old versions so long, that I've developed Stockholm Syndrome. On the other hand, there is now a very notable difference between landing in a field vs. landing on a proper runway. But then the taxiing and overall ground handling: OMG it's awesome. I always had the feeling that the ground handling in this sim was pretty good, but now I know that it was actually just a bit off. The way the forces act on the tires now, the way the plane skids when you handle the plane wrong, it all is just so spot on, that you instantly get it in a way you just didn't get before. 2. Optimization of AI: For me the update has given significant improvements. For the entire time I've been flying BoX on my 5 year old system, I've always experienced a short stutter and a rapid drop in frame rate when closing in on a larger formation of AI aircraft, especially bombers with lots of gunners. Now, that is completely gone (at least on the quick missions I tested with 15 AI aircraft) and the entire sim runs silk smooth, better than ever. I literally could not notice a difference between running a free-flight with me as the only aircraft and running an intercept with 16 aircraft (including 8 bombers). So far, it looks like very good results already, and there's a possibility, that it could get even better. 3. Nerfed AI gunners: Novice gunners are bloody useless now, I love it. You really get the sense of panicked young boys desperately firing in the general direction of the enemy. Attacking a formation of bombers can still fell quite intimidating, but is much less dangerous now. You still can't park your plane on an enemy bombers six, even the novice AI will shoot you down if you let them, they don't deliberately miss you, they're just crap shooters. I also get the sense, that the novice AI is worse at conserving ammo and will shoot much too often and at too great distances, which IMHO is as it should be. It all seems very believable. 4. Cloud altitude settings. I haven't had a chance to see the thicker cloud layers in action, but just having clouds at higher altitudes is quite interesting. It's great to have clouds interfere with combat at higher altitudes. All in all a great update that brushes up so many important little details, that the sim almost feels brand new again. 7
Voidhunger Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Better fps for me too. I had few sorties against mix of aces in Yaks and La5 and the AI is much better in flying. And my guns were disabled by enemy fire few times, which is thing I have experienced maybe once since the BOS early acces. The ground handling and clouds are awesome too. Excelent update. Thanks
Pupo Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 landings are also much easier now. yesterday i was not able to do a 3 point landing withou boucing once ot twice, today i landed twice without bouncing, You still feal the landing gear taking in some load, but it no longer springs back. Really good on that department. Performancewise i noticed no improvements as of yet.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I had one sortie in WOL and noticed that during snow mission some pilots had problems taxi to the runway ;-) Guess you have to use to new handling on gorund and first try to unlock tail wheel ;-)
Blitzen Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Just tried it & seem to have lost all my key settings. They are as I had them before but they just don't work until I reset them.As you mighht guess - this is a lot of effort .If anyone else has had this issue -s there a work around that is easier???

When you get it right make a backup copy of your input folder. If it gets messy again, you can easily return your settings from it.
Albino Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I've got a noticeable improvement in FPS on a modern system. Heading tracking is more responsive and smoother in all encounters. The variable height clouds add some variety to those snowed in intercept missions which always used to have a low cloud lower restricting combat.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I have always found that after any upgrade it is a good idea to reboot and a fresh start to the game and TrackIR, if i don't usually my TrackIR is all over the place.
wtornado Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Ok then I will come back after Christmas. Tried it seen everything I wanted to see just give the game more time I guess.
Blitzen Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 When you get it right make a backup copy of your input folder. If it gets messy again, you can easily return your settings from it. Smart move..will do , but most recent updtes haven't had this effect & I got complacent...sigh...
sinned Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 New update is great. I think it is smoother. One issue is that Juri's and veteranean's missions stop working.
LLv24_Zami Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Smart move..will do , but most recent updtes haven't had this effect & I got complacent...sigh... I have got joystick ID problems many times, that messed up my settings. I hope 2.004 fixed these problems, it was pretty annoying.
4thFG_Cap_D_Gentile Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Wobbling has gotten worse again even at high speeds, too bad. MS Sidewinder FFB2.
216th_Jordan Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) Wobbling has gotten worse again even at high speeds, too bad. MS Sidewinder FFB2. maybe your input sensitivity settings got reset. Edited October 20, 2016 by 216th_Jordan
Dutchvdm Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Wobbling has gotten worse again even at high speeds, too bad. MS Sidewinder FFB2. I loved that stick for many years, but since i have my Gladiator pro all these problems are gone. I can finally hit something. And i'm not the only one. Grt M
216th_Jordan Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Its definately not too easy. Its easier now, but I remember well how hard it was when everyone first needed to know what 3 point landing is because that was the only way to land a plane. so now you have a lot of professionals when it comes to landing - sure it seems too easy now
4thFG_Cap_D_Gentile Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 maybe your input sensitivity settings got reset. Checked but no, even adjusted them to test. Thx anyway I loved that stick for many years, but since i have my Gladiator pro all these problems are gone. I can finally hit something. And i'm not the only one. Grt M Thank you ! Any idea why the wobbling comes from the stick ? Cheers

Dutchvdm Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Checked but no, even adjusted them to test. Thx anyway Thank you ! Any idea why the wobbling comes from the stick ? Cheers Hi, I have absolutely no clue. My stick was quiet old though and it was getting a bit lose in the center. That didn't help offcourse. One other thing was that the MSFFB2 always needed very much movement to get some proper input. I compare the movement of the MSFFB2 and the Glad pro with the steering of two cars. The first is a wobbly old Citroen, the other a sharp steering BMW. Grt M
6./ZG26_Loke Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 So far only tested two planes, the 110 and Ju-87. Bf-110 is now impossible for me to make it turn right. It was difficult before but not impossible. Take-off is also close to impossible, same for the Ju-87 with a 1800kg bomb. Taxiing in the Ju-87 is now also very difficult. Before I could easily turn right and left only using the brakes. Now to make it turn right, I have to unlock tailwheel which I didn't before.
Trinkof Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 For the 110 full trim right for taxi. Works flawlessly for me
Danziger Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 The MiG-3 looks a lot better now Ground physics are amazing realistic. Cloud adjustment is very useful. I can actually fight against AI 190s and P-40s instead of them diving to their deaths. All in all I think it's one of the best updates.
Matt Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Now to make it turn right, I have to unlock tailwheel which I didn't before. Yes, but now taxiing with unlocked tail wheel actually works well for basically all planes which was not really the case before the update. Especially in the Ju 87 it's easy now to taxi with unlocked tail wheel.
ShamrockOneFive Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 The MiG-3 looks a lot better now What specifically changed? I think you were the one pushing for some changes. Glad to hear that they were changed (and I saw it in the notes) but I haven't had a chance to really look closely and see.
Danziger Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Lower engine cowling shape. Oil cooler tunnels. Gap in ailerons. Landing gear doors. They also sharpened the spinner but still not quite enough on the very tip to make a smooth transition from spinner to starter tooth similar to Il-2 and Pe-2s35. There are still some tiny things left but I'm not sure all of them are handled by 3d modeler. They also only could do it in very short time since they are very busy with new models. Overall it's very good. More things checked off the list for the most perfect MiG-3 in a sim. 1

Albino Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 My wallet is getting itchy for a BOK pre-order
Feathered_IV Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Managed to get a couple of take offs and landings in last night. The behaviour on the ground felt much more natural and it was very nice to be able to move about without feeling like I was in constant threat of spinning like a ballerina.

Zoring Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Landing is sensational, bought the Ju52 and Yak 1b today cause of how good this patch was. GG devs.
