Jade_Monkey Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Anyone playing it? It's surprisingly well polished on release, smooth performance and lots of fun. A good example of a company that has learnt from its mistakes. I recommend it!
AwesomeSprawvy Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I should be receiving my copy on Friday. I've only heard positive things about it so far, so I'm looking forward to playing it!
Dutchvdm Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I'm not a MP shooter guy, but is the SP worth it? Grt M
Jade_Monkey Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 I'm not a MP shooter guy, but is the SP worth it? Grt M It came out yesterday and i played MP all evening, so i cant tell. Im pretty sure it will be, because they have created a MP mode similar to Rising storm with a semi dinamic front. Im sure SP is much better than past battlefield games.
PapaFlo Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) Visual absolutely stunnig. Gameplay is hell of a fun. Well, I did encounter some bugs (glitching, hitboxes, cannot shoot through destroyed wall...) but much, much better then the release of BF4. I really like it - but there is one thing I just can't understand - why the hack did they change the squad-leader behavior from BF4 (request order - request order...yeaiii I'm squadleader)? This was the best thing the brought in from Hardline and now they throw it away, although playing as a squad is even more important in BF1 than in any other BF game? I've only played conquest so far and today is sturmovik time, but I'll sure be back - there is a lot to do and to explore. Flo Edited October 19, 2016 by papaflo
curiousGamblerr Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I'm playing it on Xbox One. Eagerly awaiting hardcore mode, but regular MP is fun so far. The action is a blast, looks great, love the WWI setting... No real complaints besides the laggy menu and bullet-proof horses.
Feathered_IV Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 It has a flyable messenger pigeon mini game too. I saw it on YouTube last night.
Finkeren Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 It has a flyable messenger pigeon mini game too. I saw it on YouTube last night. Ok, that sold it for me. I have to try this game!
=LG=Wicher Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I'm not a MP shooter guy, but is the SP worth it? Grt M Well ... SP is very good, but very short sadly, 5 hrs and you are done :/
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 S! Seen the visuals, really nice. But why do they use weapons that were mere prototypes or in VERY limited use if at all? To make it more appealing to the instant gratification crowd? Might be worth a try though.
Trooper117 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 From the videos I've seen of game play, there are far too many automatic weapons around... that just made it a no go for me. They just want the run and gun crowd to get involved in the usual instant gratification. Also, when you hit someone in a vital area on the body with a high velocity rifle round of the time, they would not continue to return fire until you had had hit them several times again. It is a beautiful looking game without a doubt... but for me, that's all it is.

Bf's typical players are used with automatic weapons and ACOG scopes, in no way they will use bolt action rifles and iron sights only. Optics in Bf1 looks like ACOG sights in other versions. For same reason in that COD set in 60's Could War weapons came with ACOG's. Edited October 20, 2016 by Sokol1
Blooddawn1942 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 If you are looking for a more realistic WWI experience, there's always Verdun, which is actually a very good MP shooter. But I will get BF1 too. Such a great decision to move to WW1 instead of another boring Modern War scenario. 1
TWC_Ace Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) Why would an hardcore simmer play this crap when there is ARMA3 combat sim? And if your into arcadish shooters, Verdun, Insurgency and Red Orchestra 2 are much better choices. Edited October 20, 2016 by blackram

I used to play all BF games in hardcore, but now the enemies are like sponges, they can take a lot of bullets. Other than that, Im loving it.
Legioneod Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Why would an hardcore simmer play this crap when there is ARMA3 combat sim. 1. Because it's fun. 2.It's in a nice ww1 setting. 3. Arma 3 isn't that good. 1

Also, ARMA is great in many ways, but boy is the shooting part BORING.

I used to play all BF games in hardcore, but now the enemies are like sponges, they can take a lot of bullets. Other than that, Im loving it. Yeah the sponge enemies are really frustrating, hoping hardcore fixes it. If you haven't noticed already, under Multiplayer > Custom Games their is a hardcore option that says "coming soon" so I guess it's coming eventually. IIRC BF4 hardcore appeared 3-4 weeks after release. A new mode called "fog of war" is coming too. I hear it's all pistols and melee weapons.
curiousGamblerr Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I've been checking for news on when hardcore will be released every couple days, and I have to say, I thought this forum could be toxic at times, but the Battlefield forums take it to another level entirely, jeeeez it's awful over there! Anyway, best theory I have so far is that it will be released along with or shortly after the rent-a-server program, which is due to start sometime in November. So hopefully we have hardcore within a month or so.
9./JG27golani79 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) Looking forward to the Hardcore Mode as well - meanwhile I´m enjoying the game more than I thought I would. It has some real nice maps and the atmosphere is great. But the amount of cheaters getting banned is insane .. Why would an hardcore simmer play this crap when there is ARMA3 combat sim? And if your into arcadish shooters, Verdun, Insurgency and Red Orchestra 2 are much better choices. Maybe there are people who can have fun with more than hardcore sims? I also have ArmA 3 and Red Orchestra 2 but still it´s fun to play other games as well. Edited October 26, 2016 by 9./JG27golani79
Jade_Monkey Posted October 27, 2016 Author Posted October 27, 2016 Anyone played the part of the campaign where you are a pilot?? The FM are garbage but the ambiance is top notch!! The landscapes, smoke etc The story is very exagerated but definitely fun if you dont take it too seriously.
Finkeren Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 I found the story to be absolute garbage tbh. The "lovable American scoundrel" is such a tired old trope, the story itself was completely unbelievable - and not in a good way, and the action was exaggerated and repetitive. I think the pilot storyline was the worst part of it all.
Blooddawn1942 Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 I really liked the storys about Black Bess and E.T. Lawrence. The rest was not very confincing. And I also like the MP part, what I did not expected to happen. I played BF1942 with the mods Forgotten Hope and BF1918 for many years. Also BF2 with Forgotten Hope 2. But I never got Into The Bad Company or BF 3/4 stuff.

I think the pilot storyline was the worst part of it all. I was referring to the ambiance only, like the map with the bombers and the fort. It was well done. Sometimes in il2 I feel that something is missing, with a few artillery units in the middle of a pristine field. Where are the craters, the smoke, the burnt grass, the piles of shells laying around?
Feathered_IV Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 I watched a some of the Gallipoli footage last night. The cutscenes were a bit of a cringe "Yoo carn doy mate. Yuren Oshtraylien..."

This I can definately relate to. I hope that the next generation of flight sims will make it possible to paint a "war torn"-layer on top of the map to subtly mark the active front line.
Cybermat47 Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 (edited) I've been wondering, how does it compare to Verdun? It seems to me that BF1 has more variety, while Verdun is more realistic. Kind of like how WT compares to IL-2. Edited October 28, 2016 by Cybermat47 1

Kind of like how WT compares to IL-2. The comparison to WT is probably accurate. I've never played Verdun but have read about it and watched videos like the above and it's definitely more realistic, whereas BF1 is more "arcadey". It's got a gas mask mechanism pretty similar to the one in the trailer you posted tho.
[CPT]milopugdog Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I've had the game pretty much since it entered EA, and I'd have to play it on my Mac. The game's changed a ton since then (obviously), but I always look back to the early days when player models would go from a prone position, to like when they display the models when you'd get shot. The ground also looked like it was made from Play-doh.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Great game, fantastic graphics and sound, but unfortunately it has it's problems, it will run perfectly for 20 seconds and then freeze for 5 seconds and that effect goes on throughout, i'v dropped my graphics right down, i'v turned this and that off and on. I have opened up Origen, right clicked on the game so to upgrade and repair but nothing seems to cure the problem ?? on the official forum many are complaining about the same problem, so i hope that the developers can supply a patch ? As i said, this is a very authentic FPS but this problem has got to be sorted out. GTX 970, 8 gig ram, and the latest Nvidia drivers installed. If anyone has a solution please post and tell Cheers

If anyone has a solution please post and tell Cheers Welcome to the GTX970 club, you will encounter endless black screens, driver kernal failures and a complete lock of your pc except for the sound. I've got a GTX970 as well and I wish i had bought the 980. I hate this card so much but you can make it run better. If you have the Gigabyte made version you need to get Gb GURU, but if you dont get any your OEM's graphics card moniter/OC tool. You will need to set the fan speed to max and lower your clock speed to about 120mhz below normal speed (yes i know it makes no sense). Also in the nvidia controls make sure that performance power is activated otherwise it will run on economy power. This is what saved the gfx card for me, but i'll still be happy when i get to replace it for something better and throw it in the garbage. The game is your typical FPS but its fun. Yes the semi-auto and full auto guns that are in the ww1 setting is unrealistic but its still fun. Flying the planes is a lot of fun too, just wait till i start a thread on the FM for those Edited November 6, 2016 by Tyberan
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Thanks for the reply, I cannot entirely agree with regards your experiences with the GTX 970, every game whether it be a FPS of Flight Sim have all played perfectly with my Gigabyte 970, but with regards Battlefield 2 I cant see that the graphic card is the problem, because as i have mentioned so many people with the PC version of the game are having the same problem ! . with most gaming manufactures PC is sadly becoming the poor relation. Whether its a patch needed or perhaps i need to increase my Ram from 8 to 16 ??
