Spotting range improved??

Hi there,

It's been quite awhile since I've put my feet on my rudder pedals. I'm beginning to miss IL2: BoS again but the one thing that bugged me to no end was the spotting range of aircraft. Primarily I fly multiplayer and I often remember witnessing aircraft literally pop into existence, it was a real immersion killer. Also seeing contrails but no aircraft at a resemble distance was a constant reminder of the issue I had with IL2: BoS.

I guess the question I'd like to ask the community is, has anything improved in this department over recent months?

Look forward to all your responses and hopefully not too many debates!

P.S. Will direct x 11 have any positive impact on this when it's supported?

You have a bubble of 9,5 km around you. Beyond this bubble you can't see anything.

DirectX 11 may do something with it but it's too soon for the devs to know if they can do anything yet.

One small improvement in department of spotting contacts - no sky banding on ultra preset.

Visible boundary between varying shades of sky.

After i went to 4K graphics, I've started hoping to have contact visibility increased to 16-18km. You could probably spot big bombers and large formations beyond that, but 16-18km will be a good compromise I think.

I recall from Dogfights that there was an Israeli pilot famous for being able to spot planes roughly that far out. He also had something ridiculous like 40/20 vision, so that might not be a very average, balanced spotting distance.

His name is Giora Epstein aka 'Hawkeye'.

He could spot planes at 44 km distance. Three times further than other pilots.
