LFL-EightyPLUS Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Hey guys, Just scored my first air to air kill on the Wings of Liberty server: an La-5 flown by Black_Angel. Flying my BF109 F4, i hit him a few times around his cockpit and saw him crash in a forest South East of Rzhev. Was an awesome experience and left me shaking afterwards! Again thanks for the advice! 7
SAG Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 aaah yeees! that beautiful first kill, i remember shaking, sweating and a punding heart! good day that one! Congrats! :D

Finkeren Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 (edited) I forgot mine I can't remember her name, but I sure can picture her (she had massive bracers) One of those things you really thought would stick. I remember my first online kill in BoS alpha though, back when it was just the few of us on the red side in LaGG-3s (no unlockables) vs. swarms of Bf 109F4s with no time limit on the engine. Those were the days... Edited October 18, 2016 by Finkeren
DD_Arthur Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I forgot mine I can remember mine very clearly. It was in Forgotten Battles, in one of the UBI servers. Wonderwoman view and icons on. I saw two dots initially. They were flying in close formation. As they came closer in their P39's I could read their names. The leader was "Are_we_not_men?" and his wingman was "We_are_Devo". I shot down Are we not men and We are Devo shot me down shortly afterwards. I was flying a P39 too but I was red, they were blue. 2
DD_Arthur Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 @EightyPLUS; forgot to add - very many congratulations
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Awesome, man! I've had my first in ROF (don't remember it much, TBH) and I don't think I've had an "official" airkill in a WWII MP environment but I can imagine how it feels.
kissklas Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Congratulations! That feeling is amazing:) Still get the sweating and heartbeats after all this time. That's probably why I'm a rubbish fighter pilot!;D

ShamrockOneFive Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Love those moments in multiplayer and there's got to be something special for us combat sim pilots because nothing works up a good sweat like a super intense multiplayer match. Battlefield? Naa... StarCraft II nailbitter? Nope. IL-2 difficult dogfight... gets that heart racing big time!

Battlefield? Naa... StarCraft II nailbitter? Nope. IL-2 difficult dogfight... gets that heart racing big time! I wonder why this is. I have never had this in any other games than sims. Maybe the multitasking in a heated situation causes the stress? It's strange, and I love it.
Shepherd Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 My First online kill: It must have been around 2006 on a server called Queensland in good old Il2 FB It took about 5 minutes firing about 2000 bullets on a Heinkel111 which was desperately blikning with his nav lights all of the time.... I was flying a Bf109 and absolutely convinced to have an enemy in front of me... :-) Later, when talking about that incident and my mistake we became friends...
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 S! My first online kill was in 1997. Can't recall the game. Could have been War Birds or EAW, or even Jane's WW2 Fighters.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I was on WOL yesterday and was just about to pull the trigger and tear apart an enemy fighter. That split second as I squeezed it the mission ended. Was shocked at how much my heartbeat was going flat out in that moment. Normally I guess you get a bit of a cool down period after a Dogfight finishes. Congratulations on your first online kill. It is quite a moment.
[CPT]milopugdog Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Well, if you don't count the kills I've had in WT (they kinda chuck them at you). I'd say mine was CloD. I a newbie flying a Spitfire on the ATAG server. I don't remember the 109 pilot's name, but I can remember following him from about med ALT, to low over the channel, getting a chance to pepper him, and then him going into the drink. I was on their TS, and someone told me "It'll be a while before you get a kill" maybe half an hour after I got my first.

If I encountered two people with tags like that I wouldn't have the heart to shoot them down.
Jade_Monkey Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I dont remember the kill but i cant forget the feeling. My heart was pounding and the adrenaline was through the roof. Thats when I knew BOS was the game for me.
Fortis_Leader Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) My first was in DCS. Afterburners roaring, arms flailing like a madman on bath salts, throwing AMRAAMs at everything that popped up on my radar. Not quite the same as in a WW2 sim... If we discount my first accidental kill in BoS (joined a training server, was completely unaware people weren't supposed to actually shot each other), it'd be with the MC.202. Buzzing along at 2-3000m, spotted a plane (Yak or a Lagg) headed opposite direction far out on my 3 o'clock. Pulled into lag or pure pursuit a little below him, can't remember exactly. In hindsight, it was not nearly enough below him, a glance backwards and he'd have seen me better than if I'd been exactly level with him. Closed up to about 200m range, pulled the triggers and didn't stop hosing him with .50 cal and 7.7mm until he bailed after a few seconds. Nothing fancy really. If anything, it was realistic by virtue of its simpleness. I did a fairly amateurish approach but he never checked his 6, no fancy shooting, no fancy maneuvers, and in the end of the day decided pretty much by nothing else than the fact that I spotted him first, and not vise versa. Cpt_Cool Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I cant remember my first ROF, or BOX kill, but my first CLoD kill was a doozy. I was noob hurricane lone wolfing on ATAG server. When I jumped on an 109 I heard someone on TS say "Some damn hurricane cut me off" oops. Anyway the 109 came in for ahead on attack, and i let him have it. Before i could get around to have a look, the same voice came on TS and was like "good shooting hurricane" and I saw 109 minus a wing shooting toward the ground.
Gambit21 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) I remember my first kill - I was on a high no doubt. After years and years of offline only flying I felt pretty good about my skills and I decided to take the offline plunge after getting a cable modem finally. This was back in 2003 or so. I picked a server in HL not really knowing what was what and I have no idea which server I ended up on. I took off and after maybe 3 minutes I had my first kill. BOOOM!!! Then went to War Clouds and in short order had my second kill. I felt much like the OP and was thinking was a pretty hot pilot.....and then proceeded to die maybe a dozen times in a row over the next few sessions and days until I figured some things out. Eventually I settled down, matured and learned to not care about kills, discovered CoOps - then I had more kills than I could count. I will always remember what a revelation online flying was at first. Edited October 20, 2016 by Gambit21
Gambit21 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Yep, agree. Looking forward to getting back to online flying at some point, probably won't be until we get CoOps. Warrant Officer Yamaha Kawasaki grows restless.
LFL-EightyPLUS Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Guys, Thanks so much for the nice words! i really really appreicate it!
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 My first online kill was around 2001 playing Fighter Ace 2.0. I was flying a Bf 109F and shot down a brand new cadet pilot in a P-40B. Man I loved flying Fighter Ace back in the day. I subscribed on and off all the way until they pulled the plug in 2009/10(?). The territorial combat aspect of that game was amazing. My most memorable kill was flying co-op in Hyperlobby with Il-2 1946. I believe the mission was made by a guy called "Madjik" or something similar. I remember my team was in Corsairs and we were jumped by Ki-84's. I went to pursue one enemy plane when my teammate called out "6!!!". I looked behind and saw the Ki-84 diving in with much higher E than me. I should have been dead, but in a split second I chopped the throttle and put the airplane in a cross control skid at a slightly nose up attitude. I cant believe I didn't stall. Needless to say, the Ki-84 went screaming past underneath. Once I looked over and saw him going by, I released the control inputs, firewalled the throttle, and just when the plane straightened back up the Ki-84 flew right in front of my cross hairs. A less than one second burst and he was in flames. Luckiest kill....EVER.
FlyingNutcase Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) Same feeling here; heart pounding, hit him in the engine and flew through the fireball. A total adrenaline rush and high, shakes and all. And I should say "Well done 'ol chap" for bringing home the bacon. Edited November 2, 2016 by FlyingNutcase
Eagle-OnePirabee Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) Now you touch a sore spot with air kill stories. For years I struggled to get my mojo going on every online game I tried nearly always being the target others blew out of the skies. Then one day in CLoD after eons of being everyone's potty, I was cruising along in my spitfire when along came a speck that rapidly grew into a twin engined silhouette. I still couldn't tell what it was but I was right over Dover so I assumed it was a sneak Jerry. Gunsights on, fingers trembling like hell and all and in no time I was blazing away like a demented man. I thought I saw a few hits but it couldn't have been more than a nick, and next I was peeling away and screwing around to regain contact. It was gone. A message went up that I'd just shot down a friendly Blenheim. I spent the rest of the server time typing apologies which - whew! - the chap graciously accepted. My redemption took long in coming and was in BOS not more than a week ago. I was on WOL and diving flat out for home with fuel nearly bingo. I'd spent some time scanning a target area for anything easy to kill but nothing was forthcoming. Well, practically back to base, I saw two dots doing the dance of death at a higher alt and added power to climb towards the fray. I'm horrid at spotting but my philosophy is that in such instances one approaches the pursuer and if it turns out to be friendly one joins in the pursuit but if enemy - well - you whack him. The pursuer on this occasion was enemy and a juicy looking Lag at that. My very first cannon burst killed the pilot just as he'd lined up his own quarry for the death blow. The relieved 109 up ahead recovered from his jinks and went screaming after the spiraling wreck shooting it right up to ground impact before lavishing me with thanks. I drank those in in droughts. The feeling was so wonderful and I've been watching the replay almost nonstop since. Yeah, it's a darn luvurly game all round. Pirabee. Edited November 2, 2016 by Eagle-OnePirabee 1
Nil Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Congratulations on all your first kills guys! First kill is like first love relationship... First solo real flight... It feels so good!
707shap_Srbin Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) Well said by Bf110 veteran: For my part, I can remember well. In 2002, when I came to my friend Vadim (callsign in old I./ZG1 was -taru-) and Evgeny (he was our leader in I./ZG1), I saw two PC and a Dial-Up modem. Aha, I thought, that would be interesting. I was a Bf110-nerd from early school, as I got several scale-models of that a/c.And here I see a WWII flightsim called WarBirds, Free Host server. No AI, only Player vs Player.Zhenya (Evgeny in short) told me - "Hey man, try it! Its late Tour of Duty, mid-1944..." I said - "Ok, give me Bf110!" There was a Bf110G-2/R3 with MK108's Note - that was my first ever ONLINE combat mission!I took off, followed by constant comments of Vadim and Zhenya, like "Press G to gear up, press F to flaps up, gently move Your stick or You will stall e.t.c."I took direction, may be, around 45*, and went to nearest enemy airfield. I was at ~2000m height.Coming in, I saw - what a luck - a P-38, who just took off, and was on "Gearing up/Flapsing up" operations... I dived to him, he turned, but a deflection shot with multiple 30mm hits exploded him.AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! My first!!!!!!!!!!And just a feiw seconds later, I saw big dot from N, coming perpendicular to my course, from my left to right. Same altitude. Straight.I dived a bit, to hide from his eyes under his right wing, and made a 90* deflection attack from his right-below side. Bam!Bam! Bam! MK108 ended him in seconds.I was smiling lake a mad-man, my hands were shaking, I returned to my airfield and landed, covered with sweat What a nostalgy..... IRRE_Centx Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Scored my first kills on BoS few weeks ago too Played War Thunder for almost 2 years in """Simulator""" mode, where I was a bit famous because I was flying only with keyboard and emulated joystick on my mouse (and yes I was flying fighters, not "bombers" gunships, those who played this game know what I'm talking about!) Stopped playing for a whole year, tired of flying. Then a month ago, I wanted to fly. But I also wanted more, and I remembered that I pre-ordered BoS a long time ago, but actually never played it (I had a joystick but was too lazy to learn how to use it <_<) After some hours learning how to use my joystick in solo mode, I jump into Wings of Liberty for my first multiplayer experiences. Few hours later, after being shot down multiple times, an allied objective appeared to be under attack next to me. Smelling a juicy bomber, I rush at low altitude. Here he was, a pretty He-111. Excitation, hands shaking, adrenaline boost. Like if the thousands air kills in WT were forgotten and I was a cadet again, what a feeling And a few minutes later, the same objective under attack again... Now I go into more immersive servers like Random Expert + with -IRRE- and other French squads, got a few kills there too, and still the same feeling. Got addicted again I guess 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 These are some fun stories I couldn't actually remember my first kill online if my life depended on it, weird how these things are. It must have been in Fighter Ace 3 or something, that was one good sim. I subscribed for a month or two at most, but it was very enjoyable. If not that then it was in one of the furball servers on 1946. I can't actually recall the rush, but then it has been nearly a decade. My first kind of victory in today's Il-2 was at dusk, flying over the wintery fields near Stalingrad aboard a Yak-1. I took off with flaps, forgot to retract them, spent the whole flight scared out of my wits because I couldn't make it past 280 km/h while knowing the Bf-109s were probably swarming around at 500+ at this altitude (3000m). I had a He-111 run away from me in the distance, then dropped below the cloud cover to patrol our positions. Lo' and behold I saw what I thought were two Stukas or Heinkels, but which clearly turned out to be two Fw-190s. I tried to hide in the clouds, but eventually one of them remained near me. I was way too slow and the bastard kept pouncing on me like an angry falcon, all I could do was try to turn around and force the dreaded head-on against an aircraft with six guns. Instinctively (or sheer luck, who knows) I added a bit of horizontal separation while he came in, and he didn't notice that. Right before the merge I dipped my nose and fired a burst across his trajectory, and it went straight at the engine. I ran back while he went away too. I assume he crashed on final or something, but I made it back... ...then smashed the engine while landing.
Wulf Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) Way to go man ! First air victory is like first woman, you wont forget it ! What you killed a woman? Well I don't judge, not these days. And hey, maybe she was a real bitch right?? Edited November 2, 2016 by Wulf
Luger1969 Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I am offline pilot but would like to share an experience on Sunday which for me was equivalent to a first kill online. I have not actually flown for sometime was waiting for some new equipment....T16000 joystick etc. Also I have never been good in aircombat. So here we go.... I was in qmb in a G2 and setup against 2 laggs average setting in pursuit mode with a difference of 2000 meters. My height 2000m and the Laggs 1500m. As the game started I observed the Laggs make a right hand turn towards me and realised that I am outside their turn circle ... get ready for a heads on pass (Pete Bonani Art of the Kill). They were coming up to me and I was going down slightly. OK offset a bit to avoid the danger of the headon and then rudder-aileron to get a snaphot (Requiem how to handle the merge successfully). I was lucky and got a few hits. Then a turning contest started. I stayed in the turn for a 1 or 2 turns at time, then extended and climbed. The Laggs would follow but would fall behind and I would turn again starting the process over. (John Kylander In Pursuit...you first need to learn how to stay alive...John Meyer I would turn only once or twice...) In essence I never overcommitted and we therefore stayed neutral no advantage to either side. At the end the AI’s decided enough is enough or “lost sight of me” or run out of fuel and cleared off for home I presume? I came in from behind on the smoking Lagg (seemed ages ago that I hit it). I was determined to get that kill...I had worked for it. The Lagg was weaving from side to side and broke into me as I approached (classic break turn). However I had anticipated ...was close enough (inside turn circle) so that he could not get around, created some lead pursuit...range/angle/plane of motion (Gopre) check...fire and down it went. Wow...I was alive, I had a genuine kill (for me) plus I had put into practice what I learned. It felt good because honestly this game is not easy at times. There is obviously a lot to learn the above was definitely not perfect I would much rather have preferred a quick bounce and kill but this was a start for me again small steps. Plus I have written somekind of combat report.
