=LG=Wicher Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 (edited) Since nobody answered me at "Technical Issues" I post same topic here: Hello, so my question is ... Do all of you have usage on only one thread of your cpu while playing BoS? Since we are in 2016 I thought that single-core games are extinct, but I guess I was wrong. Dakpilot Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Well, you did get a response in the other topic.. My experience is the same, over four cores I get decent spread of usage, this has been well documented for BoS and RoF high use of one core is common due to DX9 graphics API only effectively using 1 core to feed GRX card, this will/may be addressed with DX11 to a certain extent, with DX12 only able to make fullest use of multi cores with respect to info fed to GRX card More than 4 core use/programming is uncommon in all but the latest game engines and programs I see you have 8 cores, either you are using hyperthreading (Intel) with virtual cores (not recommended, better to turn off) or AMD 8 core chip AMD 'Turbo" not recommended for high single thread load programs and best to turn off, AMD CPU's although working well in many instances are not ideally suited to BoS/DX9, better to have 4 fast cores than 8 slower ones which one can get 'bottlenecked' In current BoS it is preferable to have highest speed/performance in single thread/core and minimum of 4 cores, an 8 core CPU may show advantage, but only if those cores are all running at the same speed/performance as a 4 core, and to confuse thing more simple GHz speeds are not always directly comparable across different CPU architecture.. AMD 4 Ghz is not same as Intel 4 Ghz, or (mostly) for different generations of same manufacture CPU DX11 is on the cards soon, so all discussions are a bit moot now, but as you say in OP RoF/BoS engine and DX9 are not from 2016, but if BoS was built initially on entirely new (at the time) DX11 and a new game engine at release it is likely it would never have been released/built successfully with the budget available Cheers Dakpilot
