Another nice surprise ... pre-stall buffeting

It's here on most of the aircraft, and very well tuned as far as I can tell with my little knowledge about ww2 combat fighters.

Some time ago when I was using another sim covering this same type of aircraft a bf109 was released and I didn't like the way it felt, compared to my experience with IL2.

There was some notorious pre-stall buffeting in that sim's 109, and none dtectable in IL2.

I decided to test with all the aircraft in IL2, and just one bomber, I believe the Pe-2 did have a notorious pre-stall buffet.

Meanwhile I got in contact with Klaus Plaza who kindly exchanged a few emails with me giving extremelly important feedback about the 109 IRL. His comments made my consideration for IL2's FDM rise 200% :-) and one of the things he mentioned was exactly the pre-buffeting in the latter 109 models being almost inexistant.

When I recently re-installed IL2 and started playing it again - Heck! returned to the same addiction I was fighting some months ago and made me uninstall it because it was taking just too much time from my daily spare ... -  I noticed that pretty much all of the fighters now give precise hints of entereing pre-stall, with the buffeting being clearly identified :-)

I still have a non-FFB joystick, and I remember tha in the past when I complained about there being no buffetijg some of you replied that with their FFB joystick they were able to feel it very well... So, Kudos, again, to the IL2 Dev Team for having brought it also for non FFB joystick users like me ( TS16000 that's what I use ... ).

It feels just great the way t is now!

One of the things that I really appreciate in IL-2: BoS/BoM is how good the sound, graphics, and physics models work together. It's what takes this from just a good sim to another level. The three of these things work together to form a complete sensory experience that lets you "feel" the plane better than any sim I've played before it.

Absolutely true Shamrock...

and that's why after decades playing civil sims, I am so addicted to IL2 that only Aerofly FS2 has space reserved in my disk for a future install, when it get's more features modeled...

Couldn't keep playing either FSX or X-Plane.... Even DCS became stagnated, and I eventually gave away all of my modules.

I do play Aerowinx PSX and use ELITE for IFR trainning... But their aircaft don't have those powerful shooting guns :-)

No other flight simulator has ever given me such a perfect combination of those elements you mention in your post:

- physics modeling

- graphics

- sound

- immersion

creating that FEEL that is really UNIQUE to il-2 Battle of...

This is what I've been saying as well. In almost every sim I've ever played with the possible exception of the original IL2 (up to at least FB) has had some element that would "stand out" or seem wrong somehow. However Rise of Flight and to an even greater extent BoX just succeeds in creating a seamless experience. The only thing that really bothers me are the jagged in-cockpit shadows (which could well be improved after DX11) and the fact that you can hear hits land on other aircraft from inside your cockpit

That's not to say, that it is all perfect and that nothing could be changed for the better. The pieces just fit very well together.

And... just spent the rest of the cash I was saving for a well known Airbus tubeliner, in BoK :-)

The first two acquisitions were the Ju52 and the Yak1b ...

BTW: In my profile, while all of the keys read "Activated", the "BOK" key reads "Sent" ?

I absolutely agree with everything that's been said here and I, too, don't have any other flight sims on the hard drive.  (When would I find the time for them?)  Having said that, some areas of improvement would, maybe, include a mobile CG* and maybe magnetic declination?  MagDec in the areas mapped should be about 6 or 7 positive during WW2 I believe.  There are online maps for finding this out and it could be reasonably simulated by using a fixed value for each map.  It just seems odd to me --> and probably me alone <-- that compass zero is map straight up but it makes navigation easier. - -

And anyone who's been around here awhile should know by now that my personal soapbox is polar inertia.  (Enough said - :P )

I probably spend too much time online with BoS/BoM (Boss Bomb?) but what the hey ...

*Fly a Stuka with a 250kg bomb under just one wing and try to figure out which wing it's under just by the aircraft handling.  It should be very obvious.

Interesting points chuter.

But regarding detail I found, for instance, that Moon and Sun ephemeris are precise in this sim!  Set a date and time ( in the mission editor ) and they'll be placed exactly where they should.

Also like very much the way they model variable, gusting winds and turbulence, and the announced cloud heights will bring na even better weather representation.

It is quite obvious. Right now the aircraft banks more on it's left wing when the right wing bomb is gone, especially when you start pulling on the stick.
