Is the Elite AI overpowered or am I a newb?

Hello all. I've started practice dogfights against the LaGG-3 in a Bf-109. I know the basics of dogfighting and energy fighting, but none of my tactics seem to work; why I am consistently able to out-maneuver the fighter, he is consistently able to pull alpha like an F-16 - without losing energy whatsoever. After gently extending into a climb, I look behind to see that he is following me at exactly the same speed. Turning or climbing harder does not help - move for move, he is able to match him, and this ridiculous stalemate keeps going until he runs out of ammo and flies away or my engine conks out. Is there some kind of cheat to the ai that I am not aware of? Not having this problem on Veteran.

Yeah, I use Elite AI as a warmup before I join multiplayer, I even wreck them in P-40.

The AI is extremely good at flying low speed turns. There's also pretty good in head on gunnery. Overall, that makes it hard to fight them in 1 vs. 1, unless you're in the plane that can do the tighter turn. My recommendation would be to try some 4 vs. 4 scenarios, it makes some more fun fights while offering as valuable or more valuable training than 1 vs. 1..

The ai also has a tendency to stall and fall in low speed low altitude turns, you can beat them like that although it's not as gratifying.

The AI is pretty dumb in some aspects, but their accuracy while shooting are unhuman, almost perfect, that means they will hit you almost everytime if you give them a firing window opportunity, in other words: head-ons against the AI is suicide. The AI is also very good on very slow turn fight. If you avoid these two things, you should be able to defeat the AI easily.

Don't fret, we were all nOObs at one time. Even if you have experience elsewhere you will be a newb in this sim for a few weeks. The FM's take time and the AI is very good in a small window of skills.

It's not really overpowered. It uses the same FM as the player. They are just unrealistic with their flying skills and dumb. Here's a thing you need to know: the AI does not have any skill when it comes to dogfighting, no manoeuvres, no creativity. Just expect them to go into a turn fight. Trying energy fighting will always put you at a disadvantage. What the AI does, is have perfect control of the plane, so on the they can keep it perfectly on the edge of stall. Hence, when you separate, they always, always turn on a dime to face you (because they always pull maximum Gs possible without stalling) and when you finally outwit them, you will end up in an endless turn fight at low altitude, where the AI will just wobble all over the place and give you a headache, because that is how they fly with maximum turn, yet still are able to avoid a stall.

To me, fighting the AI is tedious, boring and just plain stupid. There is no fun in it, no challenge (like they always go for a turn fight and are just perfect at maintaining the turn)

But they do stall!

Don't go into one way turnfights with them. if they roll one way - roll another. try to make them overshoot, that normally works quite well.

Not sure what is going on but the one thing I will say is that unlike virtually any other flight sim game... the AI is not cheating with the flight mode at all. They are using the same one you are. They are just probably better at it :D

AI does not use cheats in FM. IMO biggest difference between AI levels is the shooting accuracy. Higher levels can make unbelievable shots and surprise you that way.

Everytime I use Elite AI to train my skills the AI will fly away from me? I wonder why? Is this stupid or intelligent from the Elite AI? Can the Elite AI read me how good I am? No dogfights or something similar just gaining distance and altitude? I need to force this Elite AI into dogfights but should be this not vice versa? If I want Elite AI experience I go Multiplayer there I find the Elite AI for what I waited for and searched for, for this unique experience!!!!

If you are having trouble defeating an ace Lagg-3 AI, you are doing something wrong. You can fly your 109 aggressively, pretty much like a Yak, and defeat it. The Lagg-3 is not a good turner, even flown by the AI. You can turn with it in a e7 or f2, I just tested that. I didn't try with the f4 and the g2, but at least the f4 should have no trouble either. Maybe you need to be more careful with the g2, but I'm not even sure. The Lagg3 is not much of a threat in 1v1 unless it's flown by a very good pilot.

The AI is a good shooter, but it's also easily fooled using rudder. Its decisions are far from optimal. The few times it pushed me out of its turning circle it graciously changed direction to bring me back on its 6, and there's also plenty of situations where I was slowly gaining a lead on it in a turn and it just kept doing the same turn, locking itself in a hopeless situation.

Try la5 vs 110 - it can be quite a show.

Btw in campagin (flying il-2) i was chased by 109s on deck and manage do breaks and 109s did overshoots, it hapend many times and was believable.

AURED: You can start the training with 30% fuel for you and AI 100%.
You can start with the advantage of altitude.

* Try to remain very high compared to a Russian aircraft (except Mig obviously).
* Try to be very diligent to not degrade your energy.
And above all: BE PATIENT if you are not a real sniper ++++
