Opening MP mission in MissionEditor

Recommended Posts

I discovered lately that it's very easy to open any multiplayer mission in Mission Editor and see how it looks like: check where are hidden ground units, where is AA located on the airfield etc.

In that case designing mission with hidden object (where recon is necessary) or any "surprise" element is pointless because everyone may open it in ME and check where is anything located.

I remember that even old Il-2 '46 had encrypted mp missions which client downloaded.

For me such possibility is unacceptable. What is worse that this problem has been well known since RoF.

I agree. Developing an online war, such as SEOW, is pretty pointless until this situation is remedied.

There's changes coming to mission code and how they work. We can hope...

This is a bit of a catch 22 because if the missions get encrypted it will be hard for people to learn from other peoples work!

Which is why this needs to be a property in the mission or a dserver setting.

Yeah you are right!

It a shame there is no trust on the internet! I could never imagine going to FMB to look at where targets are lol. Kinda defeats the fun.

It's possible to obfuscate the mission, e.g. by inserting lots of inactive targets.

Then again, people complain that the Mission Editor is difficult to use... :)

Well, in IL-46 they use the track record for "recon" targets in that online wars  - what probable is possible do in BoS in same way, so encrypt the mission file will solve only part of problem.

If there's a way cheater/exploits will use, and they are in every game.

But you need put trigger for the real targets became visible in mission, "ME Recon" guy just need look for target with trigger.

You can put in dummy triggers too. In fact you could stack dummy objects and MCUs with the same spatial coordinates so the "stack" is extremely hard to decipher. But this sort of obfuscation is a bit tiresome and ridiculous (although it would be easy to knock up a few  "stacks" and store them as groups, and just paste them into missions...)

But I mean, if someone will open up a mission in the ME, then spend the best part of an hour trying to decipher it, all to "win" by cheating... Such a player is a pretty sad and pathetic kind of person, better dispised and ignored, surely. :negative:

And unpacking a great mission in the ME after you've flown it is one of the BoS's great pleasures!  I'd be sad if this was blocked because of a couple of idiots.

You can use huge swaths of inactive units/objects/vehicles in various different places linked to a tree of timers that is set to start at mission start and change the various timers at each branch to have a percentage chance to start respective to how many branches there are (2 branches = 50%, 3 = 33%, etc) which subsequently cancels the timer on the opposing branch(es).

This will randomize a huge set of possibilities that will foil any attempts to pinpoint exact locations given that your timer tree branches enough times to enough possible units across a significant span of play space. I did this a couple times back on The Eagle's Nest server with tank column objective and people actually messaged me multiple times with bug reports saying they weren't spawning at the location my msnbin file showed...upon checking myself in-game I found that the tanks were actually in one of the 16 different spots I'd set up each time. Fooled 'em real good!

Sounds like its easier to find decent people who just will play the game honorably and won't snoop around in the ME just to win.

It's a bit sad that people are doing this to win.

Heh, people are doing a lot more than this to win.

Yup, this isn't anything new.

Manipulating mission files to win online wars, sometimes in real time as the missions were in progress, has been done for a very long time.

It sure is too complicated for nothing you just want planes to fly from point 1 to 10 at a specified altitude and engage when there are enemy planes or not.Maybe that is why the AI is so bloody stupid in game the AI can't figure out all the

triggers,timers,waypoints,delays,and gets confused.

The mission editor becomes easier to use as you learn.

Patience to learn it is the greater challenge.

It's kind of like any neural connection...use it or lose it

Na it is patience now I am getting too old to spend time learning their game the way they designed it.

It is not that it is complicated it is just a pain in the ass and long to build.

Just a co-op generator would be ok nothing fancy.

I would rather fly.

I know I am servere but I am not getting any younger.

I put enough time in mission making in the old IL-2 but it lasted for a decade and worth the time and effort with an easy FMB.

Not sure if the server population will explode enough to be even worth learning  it and for it and the AI to run as nice as in the ROF co-ops.

I see all of the time and know all of the work involved making servers and missions like some do in here and it is out of love of their missions

and the game that they do it for just 4 players of sometimes none every night in their server..

2.004 will be my high water mark for me and this game.3 years of waiting is enough.

I don't even check Star Citizen anymore now that the Squadron 42 has been postponed indefinitely. The crappy part is they already

have my money too.
