Royalty free music for videos?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of making an IL2 video for the first time and I wanted to ask where do you guys get free background music, that fits the WWII style.

I've googled it but most royalty free sites are garbage so far.

Many thanks,

Just in case you did not know, you can use copyright music ripped from a YouTube video as long as you do not monetize it yourself, ie you are sharing films on your YouTube channel without making money from advertizing.

I did this all the time, (with my RoF films), and only ever had one of them blocked in one country by the copyright holder, and one other copyright holder that inserted a small and not very obtrusive ad.

PS - You may get more hassle if you are using modern pop songs, I always used classical or WW1 music, I think the copyright lawyers are most ferocious regarding the biggest selling tracks, as you would expect.

Using 1930s or 40s recordings should be no problem, it is not like anyone is selling them much anymore.....

Sabaton makes songs about WWII, and I don't think you'll get a copyright strike - one guy has uploaded all of their songs without much copyright hassle.

There may be an issue if you monetise the videos, though.

there is a section on Youtube, where you can explore if your music is allowed to be played back. The majority of producers allow it for non-commercial use and your video will appear with a standard license, which means some ads.

check here :

https://www.youtube.com/music_policies

if you can't find your soundtrack there, it may still be allowed for use. Their library is not 100% uptodate. If you find the music on another youtube video that has been uploaded at least a few months ago (especially if it is a video dedicated to the music and its title is the title of the song) then it is probably ok to use it.

cheers
