Boaty-McBoatface Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 I'm building a mini itx box for travelling and it came with an amd 8750k CPU in it scoring 5300 on passmark. My desktop was an old I5 650 and the game ran just great on high settings. That CPU scores only 3100 on passmark so I figured the amd 8750k would at least give me the same if not better performance. In comparisons it's generally revered as better and faster than that old I5 650. However, the difference in game proved significantly worse! Any idea why this is?
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I can't find any information on an "AMD 8750K" - I can find information for an 8750, though... And from what I am seeing, the i5 650 is actually performs quite a bit better than the 8750 despite the fact that they are both older chips. Another important thing to note is that while this "8750K" is revered (apparently), simulation titles like IL-2 generally prefer single core performance over number of cores/clock speed/etc. AMD has a long standing reputation for lower single core performance than comparable Intel counterparts.
Dakpilot Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Also turning off 'Turbo' on AMD CHIPS has (been found) to have a beneficial effect with performance on high usage single thread programs such as BoS Cheers Dakpilot
