Guest deleted@30725 Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 So I finally worked out that you can use the joystick mode and control the plane with the mouse, x and Y mouse axis gives you the up, down, left and right functions to be able to fly smoothly and do a natural roll as if flying with a stick. Used left shift and scroll wheel to get out from the default close up view and away you go. In this mode you are not limited to an AI safety you get in 'mouse mode'. Stalls are as with a stick. Yank the mouse down and the plane buffets, your pilot may black out and, as you speed drops to zero and you loose lift you're in for all the usual fun stuff. The stick does not spring back to center so you are never fighting the game. Rudder is a little tricky and had I posted a video you would see me do a wonderful flat spin and then start fumbling for my joystick rocker to flick the rudder to the left to get out of it and push the stick to the deck (that I don't now have), but ended up catching it too slow with the mouse, had no idea where the rudder was and smashed into the ground. This is going to take some learning. I used the left and right mouse buttons for rudder and the middle one to center it since it takes a while (I've only flown like this for 30 min) to work out where the rudder is since it doesn't spring back to center automatically and you have to have it roughly central before hitting that middle mouse button to center it or all kinds of bad can happen. The instruments help you work out where it is, but it's a learning curve. I manged to save a couple of stalls, but simple flat spins at low alt were too tricky for my brain with a mouse at the moment. In a sense you have to feel the plane through the mouse and as odd as it sounds, taking off is actually fairly simple even without knowing where the rudder is at any one moment since you can't always see your pilots feet. First time was a little terrifying. I expected to do a 100 ground loops, but I had enough feel in the rudder to be able to take off pretty smoothly. I'm sure everyone knows about this, but if not then tell your new player friends because they'll probably hate 'mouse mode', but can get a good feel for the game without buying a stick. There is still some key binding tweaks, but the pic shows how simple it is and I'm scratching my head as to why anyone would use 'mouse mode' (I'm sure i'll be corrected) I guess. Thanks Team. Your sim continues to surprise me.
SharpeXB Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 I remember trying this with flying games. The problem for me with this and console style controllers is that the Y-axis is inverted. It was impossible to for me to adapt to. So I got a joystick.
