Extracting Default Skins

I know some people have been able to do this to use as a template before an official template release. How is it done? I would like to see if I could add a new alpha channel to some of the default skins.

Hi Borys,

Formerly it was possible to extract default skins form the "skin.gtp" file with a software called unGTP.

But since a recent update (I don't remember wich one) it is no longer possible.

And even you change a default skin, it's not possible to save the changes in the game unless you save the modified skin as a custum one.

This is all I know about that.

It's a shame that all the textures became encrypted and can't be read after extracting anymore.  I hope when the Mods-on mode arrives we can get a bit more freedom to personalise things.

I have a question that I've been wanting to solve, does anyone know what folder the default sim skins are in? I'm looking for the template of the p51 d mustang skin "Childers" I hope someone can help me, thanks

The default skins are spread out. The one you want is called p51d15na_skin04.dds, found in IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\data\skins9.gtp
