Fauster Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Hey all, Don't know if this has been discussed before, I've searched for it and not found it, so I assume this could be a first. One thing I enjoyed about '46 was the ability to set the convergences for different weapon sets (weapon 1 and weapon 2). One thing I enjoyed about CloD (haven't played as much so not as well versed) was the ability to set separate vertical and horizontal convergences. I'm not too knowledgeable in the historical convergence settings of most planes but from what I've read, most Luftwaffe planes had parallel mg firing arcs and various horiz/vert setting based on cannon placement. For example, to my knowledge the setting for a E series 109 was 200m horiz and 400m vert. I've also come to believe the 190 had cannons set to cross horiz at 600m but harmonize with the mg's at 300m vert. Anyways my point is, I believe it would add some depth and historical significance to allow players to have an individual convergence setting for each weapon type and separate convergence ranges for in the horizontal and vertical.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 The weapons in game are not set historically. For instance, convergence of the machine guns and cannons were set differently on the Fw IRL. It was a DEV decision early on to have all guns have the same convergence point. They are harmonized and your vertical convergence is based on your horizontal slider selection. I'll look around at my old posts. It was a pretty heated discussion back in EA.
Bert_Foster Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 HerrMurf so you are saying the slider setting only sets Vertical convergence ?? If so then what is the default horizontal convergence ?
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) No, the opposite. You only set the horizontal (range) and the game calculates the vertical to match. Edited October 7, 2016 by II/JG17_HerrMurf
Bert_Foster Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Ok that makes sense .... though a bit more adjustment would always be nice
Danziger Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 I agree more details would be nice. Maybe have the detailed options available when you select harder difficulty settings. I know before the devs were saying the options weren't so deep because of confusing new players. I say leave a simplified"Easy" mode for the new players and open the detailed options menus for everyone else.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 I'm digging around. Here is on of the really old threads. I showed a little ignorance on the topic back then http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/7443-convergence/?hl=convergence
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 This one has some good info but I think any dev replys were in the DD's and I don't have time to wade through all of those. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/16388-adjusting-point-impact-gun-sights/?hl=convergence&do=findComment&comment=260772 Quoting myself, this incorporated a dev response but I don't have the original source; "Convergence was a very hot topic in EA. The convergence is set for both horizontal and vertical with the slider. All guns are harmonized to a particular point in space. This was a DEV decision and although ahistorical is an excellent compromise for all of the various nation's ideas of how to set a multitude of different weapons, calibers and convergence points. It was discussed ad nauseum and you can find the various threads with the search function if you want to view them."
TP_Jacko Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Cliffs of dover does this and although you could set the verticle convergance. I found it better to set all to the same. So a nice tweak but not a game changer. However setting your ammo belt up was a more useful feature to get adopted for BOS
Fauster Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 Yeah I would definitely like to be able to set up my own ammo belts too. Just gun and ammo customization in general I think would be great to have. 2
