=BKHZ=Furbs Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Very nice crosswind landing video from Quax. Helped me quite a bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1ZGdr8YkmU
SYN_Vorlander Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 thats a ninja landing. Brilliant Quax
Obi1Wingman Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Now that is some serious flying!!! +1!!
Karost Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Here is my Video please enjoy it while waiting next testing session.
Skoshi_Tiger Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Karost, Your video is a much nicer example of landing procedure than the first video. Many thanks, it was very informative.
heinkill Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Looks from these that the flight mechanics are very much spot on, can't wait to get into those cockpits! Thanks for posting.
DD_Squawk Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Nice video's. I noticed both of you used the meathod of crabbing into the wind, to varrying degrees. It is a well established technique for dealing with crosswinds. I wonder if it is the dominant cross wind landing procedure for most pilots here? ( thoughts?) Personally however, I prefer to side slip into the wind on final as it allows me to keep my nose pointed down the runway, while also giving me an indicaton of how much rudder is needed on landing. It has the added benifit of keeping the gear more or less inline with the direction of landing. If a tail wheel aircraft is landed and is still yawing it has a much greater chance of groundlooping. (Aileron into the wind to stop drift, opposite rudder to keep nose aligned with the runway. Steeper angle to see the runway on approach. Works best for wheel landings.)
-MG-Cacti4-6 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 very impressive. I did my xwind landing by flying a pattern, doing a touch and go, and then hopping in the circuit and landing. very conventional from me, nosing up and catching that wind, then basically pulling an immelman back down onto the runway was a method i never thought of using. very impressive indeed
Skoshi_Tiger Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 pulling an immelman back down onto the runway was a method i never thought of using. I doubt anyone else has seriously thought of it either.
Wombat Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I doubt anyone else has seriously thought of it either. I must admit I use a similar method some time to drop speed quickly. No need to slow down for gear and flaps when enemy ac is close by. If at the top of zoom where you have dropped all your speed you can decide to abort and regain combat speed quickly. Never in RL but ok online. Oh and done right it looks good from the AF.
