=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 As long as you are talking about Okinawa than it might have some impact, yes. But its largely exaggerated effect, since proximity fuse was not available for those automatic guns - 20 mm Oerlikons or 40 mm Bofors rounds were too small to handle electronics at that time, the smallest gun that was equipped with proximity fuse was 3 inch (or 76 mm), but for the most part you would see them on 5 inch guns - cruisers like USS Atlanta became major AA defense points. However in 1945 Japanese also caught that technology and started manufacturing their own proximity fuses. According to Commander Tameichi Hara, Yahagi cruiser and other ships (like destroyers Fuyutsuki and Suzutsuki) were equipped with them on their final mission when escorting Yamato. I still feel that CAP will be far more dangerous that AA.
hames123 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Well, if there is a proper Midway server that runs for a week at a time, with the carrier groups being moved randomly, it should be incredibly satisfing to sink a carrier, as you just majorly helped the team by taking out one of the enemies capital ships. Sinking a battleship should be harder, but similarly rewarding.
