Libel Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Okay, hardcore question time. How do I go about quickly trimming an aircraft for level flight, or - in the case of the P-40 - a gentle decent, say a hands-off landing approach? I often fly the aircraft with all trimmers available - the P-40, LaGG, Pe-2 and He-111 - but I've never mastered the art of trim, it takes me a good few minutes to get her flying steady and even then, I'll take a glance at my kneeboard (tablet) to find I've drifted a good 20-30 degrees off course and am now in a dive. I understand it's much more difficult in sim, as you can't feel that minor list one way or another, but does anyone have a method or some hints/tips to share?

Well, the plane does not behave very stable, it does not want to settle on a course, you will always have to do little corrections with the stick. Some planes are more stable in that regard (mainly bombers)
-TBC-AeroAce Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 the golden rule is pitch then power then trim! In general set ur pitch to get a speed at the power u want. Let things settle while holding the pitch and then trim 1

Ace_Pilto Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 So, keep the stick to steady the aircraft, and then trim it to neutral? Just remember the order Ace mentioned, it will make more sense when you're doing it.
