Gambit21 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I think it is more about how the plane is being flown than number of engines. If the plane is in a mode where it is making difficult combat maneuvers then it should use the more complex mode. Bombers staying in formation don't need it. BTW: all of this assumes AI is really the reason for the limitations. I am going off of what I have heard. It goes without saying that I don't have any real knowledge of where the CPU cycles are going. It's not about the number of engines. What I mean is, the larger aircraft not being capable of faster, more complex maneuvering anyway, not dogfighting etc, and the player not being in said aircraft - the player will not notice the more simplistic flight model on the part of those particular AI planes even while behind them attacking, even if it's taking evasive maneuvers. If a more complex flight model kicks in once the aircraft is no longer just flying in formation, then nothing is gained really from the standpoint of saving CPU cycles. I'm talking He111's, Ju52 etc - bigger aircraft.
216th_Jordan Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Big planes always on rails. no I already hated that in old '46. At least when they depart safe parameters they should react with the normal fm, also on landing. If a formation uses simplified fm that would save a lot of performance and I would like that. Additionally I also think that crew animations draw a lot of performance, I honestly think too much work goes into that.
Gambit21 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Let's be clear, nobody said "big planes on rails" A less complex flight model does not mean a 'simple' flight model - just more simplified than the player AC. The player is not going to notice a few less calculations over less of the control surfaces (or however it would be done) on the AI aircraft.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 It's all about implementation. In '46 you can still attack a Ju-52/He-111/Fw-200 and watch it pull a fast and majestic barrel roll! In DCS however you have most aircraft doing just fine on simplified flight dynamics, including some player-controlled ones. Whichever way they go with this, so long as the end result is plausible (aircraft flying normally, but more aircraft involved) then all is good. 2
Yogiflight Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 AI FMs in 1946 where in some cases very simlified. One time I was flying in QMB with a Me262 against two B25 with full bombload and ended up in getting hunted by the B25s in a slight leftturn with over 600km/h and the B25s constantly following. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Yogiflight, I had the same thing last week, but from the other end: my wingman on a fully loaded A-20C was chasing a poor Fw-190A-5 which was trying to climb away, and then got into a protracted scissors fight with it. On CFS2 there were similar shenanigans, the most vivid of which to me was a B-25 doing a loop and entering a dogfight against me in an A6M.
Yogiflight Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) But, Lucas, surely not with more than 600km/h in horizontal flight. Edited October 1, 2016 by Yogiflight
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Yes, I never had anything that obnoxiously wrong, for sure. It makes for a good story though
jamese747 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Looks interesting! I hope there will be a custom realism setting available, as in RoF. I'm not interested in XP's, unlocks, career path, etc., but would like to have the experience of flying the campaign missions in the various planes without the hassle of the more difficult realism modes. I like to be able to choose my own level of difficulty.
