CF-105 Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 I guess this is a lesson on never giving up... 9
ShamrockOneFive Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Fantastic! That was a great share and the clips at the end were a great addition too.
Irgendjemand Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I guess this is a lesson on never giving up... Hmm, i find it rather interesting how good this crate still rolls and that it even keeps flying.
unreasonable Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Irgendjemand, look at the end of the video with many examples of RL planes that landed safely with worse damage..... perhaps this was just a fluke, but not impossible. Nice video, it must have been really tremendously satisfying to touch down OK then tremendously annoying to run out of runway.
coconut Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 How you managed not to get into a ground loop at the end is impressive. On the other hand, a ground loop might have stopped you at the end of the runway I feel sorry for that Bf110 though.
6./ZG26_McKvack Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 At 1:09 typical Bf-110 behavior. Something is really wrong with that model. Even 12.7 can cut your wing off but nice flight 2
216th_Jordan Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Yes Yaw induced rolling is a bit much, but that is on all planes in Il-2. Outstanding flying! I would not have been able to pull that off

Jade_Monkey Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Nice one OP! @ Superghostboy, that's hilarious. Clearly there were some invisible wings giving some lift there. It's from the early access alpha/beta right? The UI has changed a bit since then, although it looks pretty good.
CF-105 Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 CF-105, you fly better and get more kills with a bit of wing missing than I do in a intact aircraft. Superghostboy... I will now never be able to land an aircraft without the sound of chickens accompanying my every wobble. Thanks. I get more kills missing half a wing then I do with two funtional ones...
216th_Jordan Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Nice one OP! @ Superghostboy, that's hilarious. Clearly there were some invisible wings giving some lift there. It's from the early access alpha/beta right? The UI has changed a bit since then, although it looks pretty good. also the ground drag is not implemented as we have it now. I think that stuka makes a solid 350-400 kph on landing so that might even be thinkable with the remaining lift. (dont forget weight of the missing wing and guns is also calculated in)
CF-105 Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 Another reason why my flight was possible was that my aileron jammed close to full deflection, and while I was gaining a lot of altitude, and with a fair amount of airspeed. IRL, pilots in this situation had to deal with enormous fatigue from deflecting their remaining aileron at airspeeds high enough to keep them airborne.
unreasonable Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Indeed: lots of people crash in BoS with less wing damage than that, not because they are poor flyers, but due to the circumstances. Probably the visual damage does not exactly correspond to the way the DM is counting the effect on the FM - watch Dr Zebra's videos of RoF in which he lands aircraft that appear to have no wings at all - presumably the FM is still counting some % of wing lift as being usable. It is more obvious in RoF, but we may be getting some of the same issue here. Still great flying and determination, whatever the technicalities!
