Help with orientation

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the game and I think I'm getting quite the hang of it, but there's one basic point I can't figure out: how to make it back from a mission. I arrive to the action point, splash the bandits (if I manage to of course lol) but then I find myself wandering lonely in the skies. Any helpful tip you could give me? Thanks in advance!

Before you arrive at the action point, find an obvious landmark on the map that is a short flight away from the action point. If you are flying with others, this landmark is known as a "rally point", which is a place for everyone to meet up after a dogfight. Make a mental note of the direction of the rally point and note the current direction of the sun relative to the rally point. Then, once the fight is over or you want to run for it, you can find the rally point and set course for home from there.

 

It's a good idea to note rally points as you go along in a flight and note the position of the sun. That way, if you get into a skirmish, you'll have some idea of how to get back on course or return home after the battle.
