Cybermat47 Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 (edited) I decided it would be interesting to come up with some mockup logos for future games. They aren't all that good looking, but I hope you like what I'm going for. This isn't me asking for these theatres, by the way - I just wanted to see what the logos would look like. Carrying on in the tradition of the games we already have, the roundel of the defending nation, or one of them at least, is in the title. I started off with the ones that Jason mentioned might be coming in the BoK announcement. Then I decided to experiment around with Hiromachi's IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of New Guinea suggestion. I used the standard WWII RAAF roundel (which was identical to the RAF roundel), the Far East WWII RAAF roundel, and the modern RAAF roundel for this one, as I wanted to see what they all looked like. And some others. Edited September 14, 2016 by Cybermat47 6
sinned Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Defense of reich is great. Shouldnt the spelling be defense instead of defence? Not sure if other english speaking nations spell defence. For Japan, how about that flashing rising sun?

Now that you bring it up, if we ever got a Defence of the Reich game, it probably would be spelt with an 's'. I like the idea of the rising sun, I'll check it out sometime

Feathered_IV Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Perhaps it would be best if later editions said "From the Makers of Il-2 Sturmovik" or something. The title begins to look increasingly at odds with the subject matter the further it goes. 1
Comes Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 That is true.Cliffs of Dover had the same Problem, the Plane was not even there as an AI Aircraft.
unreasonable Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Indeed - if the whole war is going to get covered a more general brand name coupled with the theatre would be much better: something like "Air Power - Okinawa, Midway etc" or "Skies of Death - Over El Alamein, Tunisia etc" Sturmoviks have nothing whatever to do with any of these.

Yeah, that's always been a bit odd, especially with Cliffs of Dover. I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck with IL-2 Sturmovik simply for brand recognition, regardless of how odd it seems when given to a game with no Sturmoviks. 1

Or how about; "War Thunder" I think Il-2 has some good Name Recognition, doesn't need to change. 1
Nic727 Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Or how about; "War Thunder" I think Il-2 has some good Name Recognition, doesn't need to change. Yeah, Il2 is a brand and a good one. Don't need to change.
Brano Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Or how about; "War Thunder" I think Il-2 has some good Name Recognition, doesn't need to change. ...but also bares lots of negative vibes in the CFS comunity (ClOD) I wondered from beginning why they used it. Rise of Flight: WW2 with BoX as subtitle would be better.
Cybermat47 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Added some more... one of which I know we'll never get, but I liked the idea of it.
Daff Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 (edited) I was thinking about this very issue when i slapped that together, I thought "IL-2 Sturmovik Presents: ........" would sound better. But a rebranding right now? I don't think so, for anyone who gets involved in the hobby most likely will come accross IL-2 and learn about it. Hopefully they can give the 'free to try' model (ALA DCS, RoF) a shot if the higher ups ok it after Kuban is out. Should help sell it to those on the fence. Edited September 14, 2016 by Foghorn
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 'free to try' model (ALA DCS, RoF) I like that Idea. I think it should also be able to access multiplayer, like the Omegalodon demo, so that if you invited friends, they could join you in game. (Or coop multiplayer at the least since we are getting that.)

Rise of Flight: WW2 with BoX as subtitle would be better. I agree: confusion with original Il2, bad association with CloD disaster, even the very rocky launch of BoS with "unlockgate". A terrible mouthful, and looks a bit like "cultural appropriation" when applied to new theatres. Suppose it had started out as a US land game about Western Europe called "Medium Tank, M4", who then did a module called "Medium Tank, M4, Battle of Moscow"..... Lousy branding. 1

"Ah say, son, you're about as sharp as a bowlin' ball!" Just kidding Mr. Leghorn. Saw your moniker and couldn't resist. (From one cartoon character to another.) SOLIDKREATE Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Made this a while back for the 'Battle of New Guinea'. It features a CA-12 Boomerang. 1
StaB/Tomio_VR*** Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Operation Unthinkable is about the invasion of Modern Russia by NATO with american F-35 i guess ?
CF-105 Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Operation Unthinkable is about the invasion of Modern Russia by NATO with american F-35 i guess ? IIRC it was supposed to be an invasion of China immediately following the Korean war. The plan was to just keep on pushing past the North Korean border and into China.
