Lol. Gotta love a good tease....

What I took away from it was that Jason is a die hard historical SIM fan like most of us, and so is his team, but money is a big issue (and understandably so by anyone that has ever tried to tackle a project half as ambitious as an accurate WWII flight and combat SIM) and so that money, and thus time and effort, will be focused on expanding the game in the most advantageous of ways.

Logically.

So not everyone will get what they want, but we will all get something better with each iteration.

This makes me happy to have spent money on this SIM, and I will be happy to do so in the future with a Dev as open and straight forward as Jason.

It was a very educational and sometimes funny look into the life of a Dev of a genre that I have come to love.

If you're looking for a summary and/or the event recording I put both of those things on my blog.

I know some of the download links go dead if they get downloaded too much so this is on YouTube where there should be no such issue.

Nice, love your posts!

Google knows it and every time you post something new they pop up in my google now suggestions.

Really? That's actually kind of cool!

Many thanks! :)

I'd like to know more info about dx11.

Just listened to the recording, all three hours of it.

I want to thank Jason for doing this. Questions were relevant , answers were honest and direct, to the point.

The fact alone that a dev team is doing this is special, and the way it was conducted impressed me even more.

The outcome of the conversation is decribed above in this thread. I'd like to conclude that there is optimism to make this genre survive as far as Kuban and the Pacific.

That's good news!!!

I do hope we all purchase this game through the IL2 website and as few as possible via steam, so the revenues flow to the right team and the future of flightsims (from this team) is secured.

Again: Thank you Jason!!

Just listened to a recording of the chat. Wish I could've participated but the guys who did asked some very good questions. Thanks to Jason for taking the time and I hope we'll see more of this.

I listened to the recording, (thanks guys!)

very interesting, lots of information. :good:

It is so nice to hear Jason instead of reading him, it is much more "alive"

Jason said the Air Marshall/Field Marshall idea will be in Kuban.  It's not a pipe dream wishlist kind of thing.  Could be very interesting.

Air Marshall/Field Marshall

Can someone elaborate on this? I still don't get it.

It's knd of like a commander, with intelligence I tell and tools to relay tactical information to the units in the field, kind of like a Tactical operation center. With access to assets

Basically Jason was talking about having a spot on the map where you click and you enter a Commander HQ/GCI/ATC type screen where you have information on what is happening in the battle. But he doesn't want it to be a RTS mode where you see and control everything but rather you get fog of war information based on recon flights, ground units, radar, etc. So your information is limited but you get a much better overall view of what is happening on the battlefield. From there, you can use the team chat or TeamSpeak to coordinate with pilots.

So for example if a ground observer spots a flight of bombers heading for a target, the Air Marshall can indicate to the team the rough position/altitude/speed of the bombers (as observed) and can theoretically coordinate the team to intercept those bombers.

But its all in the fog of war so if the bombers aren't spotted by a ground or flight... then they can sneak past.

Kind of like warthunder where the enemy aircraft don't show on the map unless they're in close proximity to a friendly aircraft?

That part wasn't spelled out. I'm guessing so but I don't know.

Jason mentioned ARMA and some sort of commander/HQ mode in that game. Someone he played that game with regularly was in the military as a Comms person and was very very good at coordinating the entire team from some sort of Command interface. That's the inspiration although given the differences in games I doubt it will be exactly the same.

Did I pick this up right?... Africa/Med is out of the picture?

They have lots of info on Eastern Front and the Pacific, but nothing to go on for an Africa/Med expansion?

also TF is doing the Med stuff

I really hope that wasn't a significant factor.

No Arma does not have a commander mode per se. I was strictly talking about comms.

What happens if people want to fly the African/Med theatre because they prefer the look/feel of this game?

I think that means they're SOL. I'd love to visit the Mediterranean as well but it's not going to be happening.

Posted

lol... So RAF/Commonwealth flyers are sh@t out of luck for Africa/Med and the Western Front... by that reckoning, there is no future for us, only for lovers of the Pacific and Eastern Front.

That doesn't bode well, especially if we are being told to go and play other games.

Surely the whole point is 'not' to tell your customers to go elsewhere... hmmm

Posted

he didn't say they're never gonna do it. but not now, the timing is bad. nothing after Pacific is decided on yet

I've never played CLoD before but I've heard goods things about what Team Fusion has done to it and I trust they will do a good job on the Mediterranean theater or so I hope.

No drama mate...

Anyway, I have had CloD from day one, I have the TF mod installed and play it from time to time.

All that is needed are some dedicated map makers and some collector planes and you can get any theatre you want.

Posted

That would seem to be the ideal situation... however we know from reading Jason's many recent posts that it is not an easy process to bring about.

Posted

I really hope that wasn't a significant factor.

That's really it though. They'd just be duplicating the theater that someone else is doing right now. It makes sense. They have better historical research and data for the Eastern Front and Pacific too.

I like the Pacific theater idea. it's also a complete expansion of nationalities and planes that broadens put the product into US and Japanese instead of more Luftwaffe which the Med would be. You'd have essentially the same German aircraft again, even though adding the Western Allies.

Was there no RAF presence in the Pacific?
