Alky Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I just bought and installed BoS and was looking forward to enjoying it. Not so, the mouse is in slow motion and the game is a slide show. I believe my computer is not an issue but I think the video card may be at fault. I think I need a GTX 660 or GTX 760 or better but I don't know what will physically fit in the tower. (HP Envy) Here's what I have and it's obviously not good enough. Any suggestions appreciated. I'm retired and on a very limited income. ------------------System Information------------------Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 10586) (10586.th2_release.160802-1857) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: 700-059c BIOS: 80.07 Processor: Intel® Core i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz Memory: 12288MB RAM Available OS Memory: 12242MB RAM Page File: 2517MB used, 17916MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: 11.2---------------Display Devices--------------- Card name: AMD Radeon HD 8470 Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. unlikely_spider Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Yes, I am sorry to say that your video card is simply not up to the task. The good news is that the other components (except for possibly the power supply) are good. Do whatever is within your budget and space constraints to upgrade that part, and you'll be a bit happier.
Jade_Monkey Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 CPU and RAM look good. If it's a tower I'd upgrade that GPU to something you can afford and meets or is above minimum requirements.

I've been looking into a GTX 750TI, not the OC one, they only require a 400 watt power supply and mines 460 I believe and it should plug right in. They seem to go for around $160 Canadian. Anyone here using one?
Jade_Monkey Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Depending on budget it may be interesting to upgrade to a decent 650w PSU. The PSUs in the OEM towers are not very good, and probably not very power efficient.
Marrond Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) Depending on your power supply, you might not exactly have 460W at all. It's always lower than that (especially with no-name PSUs they put into OEM computers) and also PSU lose efficiency over time - some faster than others, operating at peak level all the time also significantly shortens PSU life. I strongly recommend to wait few more months, set aside some money and get GTX 1060 with decent 600W PSU (you don't need 600W to run it, but you need to have power overhead, otherwise your PSU would resemble 125cc motorbike on a highway, struggling to reach past 66mph, cutting out constantly). You should easily fit below 500$ - it will be much more worth it than upgrade to 750Ti as one isn't exactly a capable card to begin with, especially in this hardware-power-hungry game. I strongly recommend to wait few more months, Actually mine is 480 watts, that's what the sticker on the PS says. I ordered the Gigabyte AMD RX460 and it arrived yesterday, installed with no issues. The game runs & looks great now! Thanks for all the input folks!
=AD=Kap-the-head Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Hi, I have a similar problem on my ASUS laptop. Even with downgraded resolution to 800X600, I get only 12 FPS at altitude, about 10 FPS on the ground, and only 7 FPS at the menu. I read about my video card, and does not seem like it has bad reviews, so I would expect at least closer to 25-30 FPS, especially after reducing the resolution. Any suggestion are greatly appreciated. LLv34_Flanker Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 S! Am I seeing things, but the memory and CPU speed seem quite low on kap-the-head's computer? :huh:I have not seen DDR3 running below 1000MHz in ages if ever. Might it be the laptop "throttling" or similar? Also if using a laptop plugged in why not try check power settings to be for "Best performance" instead of "Balanced". That makes a difference even on desktops.
=AD=Kap-the-head Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) Thanks, LLv34_Flanker, for a quick response. I checked the power settings and it is set to maximum performance. Also, is there a way to manipulate DDR speed and how does it affect the performance? Thanks a lot! Edited September 26, 2016 by kap-the-head
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 S! You can increase the speed of DDR in BIOS. That if the motherboard has overclocking capabilities, usually under Advanced settings/Chipset. At least they usually have so called memory profiles aka XMP, if the memery you use has it thus can be enabled. For example my DDR4 runs at 2400MHz as default but if I enable the XMP profile I get the 3200MHz. I recall DDR3 usually runs in range of 1333 to 1600MHz if non-XMP profiles included. G.Skill, Kingston and other manufacturers have these modules with higher settings. Hope this helps, hard to say anything more detailed as can not "see" your system on hand :D
=AD=Kap-the-head Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 (edited) I got to the BIOS menu and from there navigated my way to graphic configuration. My DVMT Pre-located (whatever that means) was set up at 64M. After I raised to 128M it, my FPS in Il-2 improved - flying above the ground was registering 20+ FPS with over 30 FPS at high altitude. However, after raising the DVMT to 256M did not further improve the FPS. So, whatever that was it made the game more enjoyable. Thanks, LLv34_Flanker, for your effort to help.
