ShamrockOneFive Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 First off... I'm very excited about the whole aircraft lineup to come in Battle of Kuban but I wanted to talk bombers for a bit. For this new IL-2 series, we get one bomber that is a well known quantity but with some interesting differences and one bomber that I'm VERY happy to see return and absolutely great for the Kuban theater. I have questions that I'm trying to get answered. The A-20B is not the type I had expected.. According to the Wikipedia entry it is... The A-20B received the first really large order from the Army Air Corps: 999 aircraft. These resembled the DB-7A rather than the DB-7B, with light armor and stepped rather than slanted glazing in their noses. In practice, 665 of these were exported to the Soviet Union, so only about one third of them served with the USAAF. I'm wondering what the versions exported to the Soviet Union would have been like. Something like this one? An A-20B from 5 GMTAP VVS Black Sea. Fitted with the UTK-1 turret and 12.7mm UB gun. On this aircraft I see forward armament. Would that have been Browning .30cal like the A-20C we have in IL-2 1946? A Soviet fitted armament? I'm really curious. Now... on to the He111H-16. This should be fitted with a MG131 in the top turret and MG 81Z in the ventral pod and in the waist gunner positions. Torpedoes fitted on an external rack. What about engines? Jumo 211F-2? These are the same engines fitted to the H-6 version if I'm not mistaken. So its likely to be a heavier aircraft with more defensive power and the same engines so likely a slight reduction in performance as a tradeoff. Were there other changes to the H-16 that I haven't been able to suss out?
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 (edited) All I know is it should be fitted with a completely bulletproof little bastard on the ventral gun if we are really capturing the "spirit of '46." I always hated that guy and it was almost impossible to kill him in that wide open/unarmored bay on the bottom! You could saw a wing off her but never hit that gunner from point blank range. Even with 30mm guns. F*c# that guy. Edited September 9, 2016 by II/JG17_HerrMurf 3
Aap Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I think A-20 is an amazing plane. From gameplay point of view it is a bit shame though that the Soviet side got another fast light bomber and is still lacking a bigger bomber like B-25 or IL-4.

Not having the IL-4 is a little disappointing but on the other hand... I love the A-20! It fits the theater well and it brings in another lend lease type. Plus, there is always the possibility of an IL-4 as a Collector Plane sometime.
