SCG_Space_Ghost Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) Not everyone can drop 80 dollars like its hot. I've got hookers and blow to buy, before I put food on the table for my family, then somehow I have to figure in an 80 dollar game. As far as I can tell, it's kind of like a pyramid scheme. Invest another 80 dollars (granted we are getting a game for our money) and you might see a P-47 or P-51 later down the line. Likely we will never see it because the scheme will collapse before we ever see a return on our investment. Hence why people (Silky) will just leave and keep their 80 dollars. I get the bit about not being able to drop $80 - I've been there. However, I don't think this classifies as a pyramid scheme. It doesn't fit the description. It's honestly very simple - there is nothing shadowy about it: we give 777 money, 777 gives content. We give 777 nothing, 777 goes bankrupt, 1CGS backs out and we get nothing. I get it - many people don't seem to care for the Eastern Front... Honestly, I don't care about the Pacific and find it kind of boring... But I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot and ruin the continuity of the genre based on those kinds of hangups. I've got the money, I can afford the investment and I'm going to invest and see where it takes me... Like anybody who makes a risk-based investment does. Edited September 11, 2016 by Space_Ghost 6
ShamrockOneFive Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Like I said earlier, I'm looking forward to the core game updates and will continue to play BoS and BoM. I've read Jason's posts. I'm not going to buy kuban because I don't want it. My days of pre orders are over. If a company can't finish a product without gambling on the income of pre orders then it shouldnt start the project. It's unfair to the pre order crowd. I've been burned before. And found next to zero empathy from the majority of the community. If my understanding is correct they have the finances available for kuban. Hopefully the sales will be enough for them to make midway. Hope is not going to make me buy something I don't want. From what Jason said yesterday... 1C, the publisher has decided to pony up the cash for the development of BoK. It's already paid for (or allocated). The accountants will be interested in sales and bottom lines. So if sales are good (pre-order or post release) then it justifies them to then pony up the cash for the next project after (Midway, Okinawa, whatever). BoS and BoM provided enough justification to pay for the next round. If people buy Kuban in respectable numbers then the Pacific will be next. If people don't then its much more uncertain. If you're not interested... That's cool. Hopefully enough people buy into the series aside from you to get something that you want. If they don't... then they don't.

And honestly, it really is just that simple isn't it? Several people have mentioned being a little let down by the announcement, including myself. But, in the end there are only two choices to make, buy or don't. I choose to buy. I'm not sure what's to be gained by anyone trying to convince others what a raw deal it is. Voice an opinion and move on.

I've said all along I hope Kuban is successful and I really mean that. The core improvements are very welcome and those in themselves will convince folk that abandoned the game early on to come back I'm sure. I've seen a lot of folk that left these boards a long time ago return. It all looks very promising for the future.

VBF-12_Snake9 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I have enjoyed reading these last few days and have chosen to stay low. Some people are very excited and that's good. Me . . . I guess excited to wait 16 months. While I think it is correct to assume that Bos was a success, it is also correct to assume that Bom was not so great. This is obvious by Jason's tone and need to rescue the game. I hope the game can make it through another eastern front and come out the other side. If it does, me and my money will be waiting for the pacific. Again I would like to express my gratitude to all those who are paying for my pacific hopes and dreams. Can't wait to drop the Russian tag and return to the glory days of VBF-12_Snake9. Oh yea! This forum is just for kicks and giggles. Yall boys get too mad. :D
Voidhunger Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I hope that lot of folks will buy Pacific for me to play BOB (Battle of Berlin with my beloved Komet), because I will buy BOK for you to play Pacific
SharpeXB Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) For me the announcement of an RoF style career is better than anything about new theaters. A continuum of battles across the eastern front, from Moscow to Kursk would be a fantastic backdrop for a career. It would be interesting to do that same thing across the Pacific. Guest deleted@1562 Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I'm very pleased that we get Kuban as next theatre and a flyable Spit, P-39 and HS-129 - and hopefully carrier ops in the then next one. If I wouldn't be, I'd not preordered and that would be my advice for all you disappointed pilots out there.
SharpeXB Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) Bottom line is we all need to pitch in and buy every module that 1CGS makes regardless of the theater or planes. I like this genre and the quality of this game so much if they made the Battle of Nowheresburg I'd buy that too. They have stated that they do want to do all of WWII but can obviously only do it one piece at a time. So if you want some particular theater or plane made, fund everything and chances are you will get it eventually. Sitting on the sidelines waiting for only what you personally want will doom this enterprise if everyone had that attitude. And 1C is the only company in the world who will make a game like this. If we fund everything there's a chance we will all eventually get everything. If we don't fund it that chance is zero. Edited September 19, 2016 by SharpeXB

TheElf Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I'm not buying kuban but I'd pay good money for a stand alone British planeset. Hawker Typhoon, Bristol beaufighter. Also USAAF planeset, P47, P38, B25. Why limit the collector planes to the current in development theatre? It would certainly bring more diversity to the game and increase the interest for those not interested in the Eastern front. Increasing player count and sales. At the moment I don't see any reason to buy kuban because of the planeset. The map may be interesting but $50-$90 for more of the same aircraft no thanks. Hi Blunder, While this idea has some merit, my concern is that a flush of new Collector planes that do not belong to the theaters that are available would create a "second coming of War Thunder" scenario. Perhaps this could be mitigated by Server Admins and mission designers, but the last thing I want to do is fly a historical mission online and see a Typhoon schwacking 109s over the Volga. My other issue with this is that the business model and design philosophy of this franchise is built on setting, immersion, and homogeneity with each aircraft, map, and campaign. Anything that doesn't further this is a misappropriation of developer resources. Just my opinion... 2
Gambit21 Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Agreed Elf - that would be a slipper slope.

Funding doesn't necessarily have to come from pre-orders. But from all sales. Most of us regulars and enthusiasts know what to expect from the future modules so the "venture" isn't so much uncertainty. Marketing is something Jason talked about in his session. What was important to take away from that is how hard a game like this is to market. Reviews in the mainstream gaming press is impossible because none of those reviewers play any kind of flight sim, so they can't write about it. So they do depend on this core base of customers to buy the product. Now is not the time for hand wringing and worrying about what we will get. 1CGS has proven they can deliver and beyond. But to do that takes money. That's why anyone enthusiastic about this genre should step up now. Edited September 20, 2016 by SharpeXB

One of the things that I've recognized and valued from the start with Battle of Stalingrad is that they are VERY good at picking the right planes that fit into their 8+2 model. Everything is historically selected and highly relevant. I'd like to see that model continue... If we do the West Front then I want them to pick the right types to make that piece fit. If we do the Pacific then I want that aircraft set to be incredibly tightly selected. That prevents us from having the scenario we had in Pacific Fighters with an ultimately good set of aircraft but some gaps in places that made building historical scenarios difficult - especially early on before they were able to fill out the set a bit. wtornado Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Well I do not know what state your countries are in but here jobs are on the decline and money is scarce for me anyways. The economy slowed down quite a bit here maybe if things pick up after Christmas then the cash flow will be better. Not that I am cheap buying 20-30$ games or IL-2 games on Steam games at 50% off it is just that I can't afford it right now. That is just the way it is now.
