German Fighters have auto brakes? I don't understand

I am fairly new to IL-2 BOS got it during the summer sale.  I have gotten to the point where I can mostly fly around in the campaign without crashing (short version) unless my wingmen crash into me.  But I want to be able to do the whole thing, taxi, takeoff, fly, land.  So I have been working on taxing, I can't seem to taxi slow and here is why.

I don't know if its my hardware causing this (rudder pedals with toe brakes) or how the game is made.  In the F-4 when I move the throttle less than 23% both brakes automatically come on full.  I am totally off the pedals.   Move it to 24-25% and brakes come completely off, back to 23% throttle and brakes completely on.  In the G-2 its similar except the throttle setting this occurs at is 36%.  So I am having to taxi at higher throttle settings than I want.  Is this normal?

No, is not normal. Looks problem is your controls assignment.  :)

Probable your throttle axis (on joystick or standalone throttle quadrant) are assigned for "Wheels brakes" too.

Clear this and leave a joy button or key - examples Space assigned for "Wheel Brakes".

And assign pedal brakes for "Right Wheel Brakes" and for "Left Wheel Brakes". You will use this for Luftwaffe, P-40 and i-16, is the "tip-toe brakes"

BTW - For brake in Russian (minus i-16) and Italian planes, dont use right or left pedal brake, use the button assigned in joystick or Space key and move the rudder for the side you desire brake the wheel. In this way:

Differential_brakes.jpg

"Differential brakes" = "hand" brake + rudder.

Russian (- i-16) and Italian  planes don't have brakes on foot, but in "bicycle lever" in control column (like in the figure above), so need rudder input to brake one or other wheel for taxi maneuvers, if rudder is not moved will brake both wheels.

Anyway this work for Luftwaffe, i-16 an P-40 too - for people that use 3in1 "twist rudder" joystick only.

I am currently using the g940 with requiems profile. I have a button assigned for the Russian planes and trying to use toe brakes under left and right wheel brakes. I will check tomorrow after work that its not assigned somewhere else. If that doesn't work I'm going to remove the toe brake assignments and check that. Thanks

Don't looks the case to remove the "toe brakes" (Right/ Left Wheel Brakes) assignments.

But check what you have assigned for "Wheel Brakes".

Can be the case that G-940 throttle are mixing throttle axis input with brakes inputs, this controller is tormented with issues with their (low quality) potentiometers, short wires that can broken and the "reverse bug" in firmware.

Check under Windows control panel > Games Controllers (type joy.cpl in start box), or using DView if move throttle cause brake axis response.

I have tried what you suggested:

In the Windows Game Controllers window I have moved the pedals looking at the deflection responses, moving the right throttle doesn't effect their movement or positions.

In the game key mapping I have removed all instance(s) of the right throttle axis (joy1_ axis_x) from all of the possible keys in all the possible tabs.  Moving the right throttle (only the right throttle) moves the brakes.

I removed the toe brake assignments from the pedals, the right throttle no longer moves the brakes, if I assign just the left toe brake then the throttle will move just the left toe brake, if I assign just the right toe brake then the throttle will move just the right brake.

Again I have never seen this before in my other games and it doesn't show up in the windows game controllers screen either (the area where you can go an calibrate stuff).  I went through the files that Requiem has you copy over and removed all instances of the right throttle axis being assigned (it was on the throttle for engine 2).

Any ideas?  Any other g940 users out there that can check to see if they have this and whether or not they are using the setup requiem posted?

Okay with playing around more I discovered that as I moved that right throttle the mode selector was jumping from mode 1 to 2 and back constantly. Switch it over to mode 2 and it stays there as I move the throttle. I am really sorry I bought this, this the second set, first was returned under warranty cause the rudder pot went crazy within first year, I've already redone the throttle wiring at least once to get it to last this long.... I was mainly using it still cause the rudder pedals, only set I've got and can't be plugged in separately. Guess I need to find new pedals and use my warthog....does anyone have a key mapping profile they like with the warthog or can recommend rudder pedals?

Maybe your game controls are corrupt. you can try:

Go to ...\IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad\data\input

And copy the files "current.actions" and "current.map" for safety place (e.g. folder in desktop).

Start the game and in Controls reset all for default.

Now is need assign controls again, set only the joy/throttle/pedals axis and test.

If fail restore the originals, trough manual copy. If not, remap the remains buttons.

For pedals look at the "Next Gen" models available: Baur, MFG, Slaw, VKB - prices vary from 200$ to 500$+.

I have looked at those. I should say that I am in the us. I know the vkb are available here although their function is very different from plane rudders, I understand that they may be more hello oriented. I really like the slaw and Bauer offerings but they are in other countries seen different reports on if available to us or not. So of what's available in us ch or vkb seems like the main options. Are those okay for flying ww1 rise of flight, ww2 il2, and dcs sims?

For buy Baur, MFG and Slaw pedals you need to get in the queue.

VKB T-Rudder Mk.IV is available in US in Stratojets or Amazon.

They looks more close to helicopter pedals design, but their kinematics is based on some Tupolev airlines rudder pedal, is not "Alien Science".

For me they work very well for planes in BoS, CloD DCSW - and as have up to down slight diagonal movement is less tireless than slide back and fort pedals. I even drive ARMA3 vehicles with foots. :)

See their operation in this video:

But they don't have brakes - nor "tip-toe brakes, toe brakes, joe brakes...".

However they can brake both, or right or left wheel only in this way through T-Link Software:

Dufferential_brakes.jpg

T-Link emulate that "Bicycle brake" in plane control column in joystick or throttle button.

I figured out that a short on the mode select switch on the g940 throttle was causing the problem. I have already taken it apart and did what fixes could be done, last time I replaced all the wiring. But I have never been fond of the pedals anyways cause they don't start moving smoothly. Sooo after pleading the miss Christmas just arrived.

I'm pretty happy, way smooth compared to g940 pedals, and now I can finally unplug it and be free from weird shorts or the Logitech profiler crashing.
