Il-2M - what is this?

Hi,

 

I read about the Il2 sturmovik aircraft, but it didn't very explained what's this little piece on the right side of the cockpit.

Coming out of the wing? Apparently that's a filter, to keep dust out of the intake.

Il-2M and Il-2 typ3 are incorrect names. All Il-2's from beginning to the end of series called just "Il-2" in short, or "Il-2 AM-38, Il-38F, Il-2 AM-38F arrow wing".
