what is the deal with the giant circles that we cant see in the revi sights?

Yes the reticles our huge when you look at the revi sight you only see the cross where is the circles? Gradient circle the rings, 100,200,300 m rings or yards?

You have to lean in close to the sight.

I asked a while ago why there was no good way to set the view to see the entire retical and was told by one of the dev team that this was the way it was in those aircraft and that Russian pilots often complained about it during the war.

The inner ring is about 130 mils, I don't know about the outer ring but each tick mark is roughly 9mils. The outer ring is just for deflection but like stick said, you couldn't see the ring so it's pointless.

I couldn't get much more opposingly off topic, but,... what the fudge is the point of the second dots sight on the macchi and how do you use it?

that helps align your sights, and also lob your shots

Lean forward and it'll look just like IL-2: 1946. And really... no they didn't always there either. On some sights it was fine and on others (depending on the fixed pilot position for the majority of the life of the game) you couldn't see a darned thing. Example: La-5FN vs La-7. On the 5FN you could see the outer ring and on the La-7 you couldn't. Made gunnery difficult.

This is how the Soviet gunsight is set up:

 

10 mils one vertical line, 40 mils radius

70 mils small ring radius

105 mils large ring radius

From my notes:

 

The angular separation between adjacent central dots was 28 mils, or 56 mils between the outer ones of the three.

 

The inner circle radius was 60 mils (3.43 degrees), or a diameter of 120 mils, or some 1.2X larger than the Revi's 100 mil diameter circle.

 

The outer circle radius was 118 mils (6.73 degrees), or a diameter of 236 mils.
