r153 Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 i have not been in the air since fb 1946 and war clouds , so do u guys use stream or or just buy it off the website ?
Feathered_IV Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Buying off the website gives the money direct to the developers where it does the most good. I think that's what most people are doing. 1
Quax Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Buying at the website gives you some advantages. Why steam ?
Haza Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 ISO26 I have bought a number of IL2 products from steam and a few gifts and BOM off the website. Unfortunately owing to my own fault, I incorrectly sent the gift to the wrong person. However, dealing with the website guys, they were able to rectify this issue within 2 days. I therefore would strongly recommend that buying off the website ensures that at least if you have any issues with your purchase etc, you have the team who produced the game ready to help you. Just my personal experience though! Regards Haza

Jade_Monkey Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Welcome back! The website works well and it gives more money to the developers, so that's a good choice.

Yeah, buying games has changed over the years. Everything is run online through the game store now and that includes subsequent addons (such as Moscow or the Yak-1B/Ju 52 pre-order) and the game updater makes sure that everyone is running the latest build without fumbling through patches. They couldn't do that sort of thing before with boxed releases. It's totally different and while it takes some getting used to... I think it's worked fairly well for us so far!
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Definitely buy it off of the il2sturmovik.com website. If you already have a Steam account you can exchange your il2sturmovik.com key for a Steam key - that way all proceeds go directly to the developer/publisher and/but you can still manage your play time/licensing through Steam.

I'm pretty sure that Steam charges the devs for the keys, that's why the only offer the exchange to the people who bough it early (because they didnt have the option to buy from Steam).
F/JG300_Gruber Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 (edited) I bought BoS from steam during sales, for convenience on updates and downloads when I clean the computer and most of all, by habit. But now I'm buying everything (BoM and extra planes) off the website and don't bother transfering license keys to steam because it's not required to do to play with them anyway. Compound ghost/monkey answer : buy everything on the website and if you want it on steam, just transfer the basic BoS license key on your account. That way you have a steam version of the game and be sure that most of the money goes to the developers. Edited September 4, 2016 by F/JG300_Gruber 1
