=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I actually had a P-40 blow up in front of me the same way when flying in E-7, guy was trailing white smoke (coolant apparently) but apart from that was perfectly fine since I only managed to hit him once or twice with machine guns. Then I got on his tail and from short range (he was in my convergence) I sent a volley of cannon and machine gun rounds making him explode. I was quite surprised since I have never seen that before. Sure, burning aircraft with fuel tank explosion or cutting off a wing, but to see a mid air disintegration was to me something new. If anything this works both ways and is not exclusive to 109s, though its nice to know that it happened to someone else as well. Either way I'm not sure what can cause such a mid air explosion, maybe if ammunition was hit and that would result in whole plane "vanishing" ...

Hitting the ammo have a chance of making it explode. But explosion from ammo racks dont make the plane "vanish", maybe its was bug/glitch/fluke ? Edited September 4, 2016 by JAGER_Staiger
